It’s not that I’m hostile, but I’m deeply uninterested in the low-rent culture of Mexican wrestlers and why they can’t reveal their faces by taking their douchebag masks off and how some or most of this crap fits into Nacho Libre, blah-blah. No offense to first-rate feature writer Lewis Beale, who wrote about all this for the N.Y. Times, but I couldn’t finish the piece.

Yes, I’m sorry but I have no interest in the movie either. I’ve developed a healthy distaste for Napoleon Dynamite, and this will only serve to make things worse.
The NY TIMES piece was a pretty informative article, explaining quite a bit about a very big part of Mexican pop culture. And I, for one, enjoyed reading it as a fresh-up on Mexican wrestling prior to seeing Nacho Libre.
No one would call the El Santo movies “good,” but they follow such odd logic (like the fact that the wrestlers never take their masks off, even when sitting around the house) that they feel like cinema from another planet. And that makes them worth a look at least.
Douchebag masks? That’s a little harsh, Wells, come on.
Someone needs some cultural sensitivity training.

Even reading a well written article about Mexican wrestling = So offensive to his high rent sensibilities that he has to post about it just to get in a cheap shot about how much he disdains the subject matter
Documentary about the high society world of competitive air hockey = Bueno!

This movie looks like a lot of fun to me and this
article made me more interested in the subject. Just the fact Jared Hess is directeing makes me want to see it so I can tell if “Napoleon Dynamite” was a fluke or not. Good to know that other people watched El Santo movies on Saturday afternoon UHF TV stations other than myself as well. Were you deprived of this experience, Jeffrey?
