Duelling amigos reapprochement
Observed during Saturday’s backstage-at-the- Lobero luncheon that followed the Directors’ Panel: a reapprochement between formerly feuding collaborators Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and Guillermo Arriaga. Inarritu went up to the sitting Arriaga and gave him a hug; Arriaga reciprocated with a couple of comradely slaps on the back. Then they left the room together and stood alone out on the brick patio, shooting the shit for nearly ten minutes, no evident tensions whatsover. I thought to myself, “This would make a historic photo…the duelling amigos back together again”…but a voice told me to stay away.
Why is every reference to more than one Mexican filmmaker accompanied by the use of the term “amigos”? I’m not even being PC, it’s just the precious word choice that drives me nuts.
A voice told you to exercise tact? No frickin’ way.
Most likely, the voice belonged to a large and presumably blingy bouncer named Tiny.
i’m more offended by the spelling of ‘duelling’ than by the use of ‘amigos’.
“Duelling” is acceptable (though probably not what JW had in mind):

Quarreling is probably the more apt word choice, but we’d have the same issue of whether or not to use two L’s. I would still guess that most all of U.S. newspapers would use one L in both.

Stay away? You should’ve be running at them in slow motion yelling “Nooooooooo…!”. The law of diminishing returns is like their godparent right now.
Also, I’m pretty sure you mean rapprochement, not reapprochement. Just sayin’.
