Venetian rainstrom
I’m sitting inside the southern branch of the Venetian Navigator (i.e., the one closer to the San Marco district) as I wait the Cannes Film Festival winners to be announced online. And as we were all taught in school, a watched pot never boils. Tell you what….here are two heavyweight video clips of yesterday’s rainstorm. Watch ‘em or don’t.
The Romanian film won the Palme d’or. Schnabel took best director. Paranoid Park won the 60th anniversary award, etc.
Looks like the Coen brothers and Fincher won nothing.
Well, let the chattering begin. BANISHMENT was dissed by the crit’s (except for Corliss and a couple of others) and won best actor. Didn’t see everything in the Fest, but from what I saw it was the best film.
Nada for Coens, which was heralded as key contender. Van Sant wins another top Cannes award. Central and Eastern Europe is now officially part of the Cannes club with awards for Russia, Germany and Romania (latter took the Palme D’or). Schnabel irritates the French by making a French language film in France but is American (merde!) and now has a director Palme. Lots to chew on!
