   And yes, Bocephus is the new D.Z. . I’m hardly the first to make this observation. It is one of the running jokes on Colbert’s show. The first time he ever said the name on the show he pronounced it correctly. Then he ran a series of clips from the 24-hour news cycle of all these anchors mispronouncing the name, and decided it was his duty to carry the torch. Ever since he has comically mispronounced the name in some fashion.

   Why else would TV news fail to get it right? Is it that hard to look up the pronunciation and practice it a few times before going on the air? I’d much rather assume that the media acts this way to pander to their cynical impression of common people. I would hate to think that the people who are providing us with our news are actually this xenophobic and anti-intellectual.

   It’s all about farming disrespect for a foreign leader that the administration has propped up as The Enemy. I don’t believe that Ahmadinejad is a good guy, but he is still the head of a foreign state and it is just plain bad manners to treat a foreign leader this way when he visits your country.
