Hannah Montana concert flick stats

For reasons no one fully understands, the forthcoming Hannah Montana concert movie is being called (ready?) Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour. The 3D Disney release comes out on 2.1.08, and Fandango’s Harry Medved has passed along the following:
(a) It currently accounts for 91% of all ticket sales on Fandango, (b) Although plenty of tickets are still available for midweek shows, over 1,000 showtimes are already sold out, (c) It’s the best-selling concert movie in Fandango’s seven-year history; (d) Exhibitors are regularly adding additional show times at their theaters, including Thursday midnight shows and Friday morning shows (as early as 8:00 a.m.).

If you had a 12-year old daughter, you’d understand perfectly.

  2. Well, that is the name of the concert tour, which just played here to two sold-out shows.
This movie isn’t for us, so it’s pointless to complain. The only thing I can’t decide is whether Disney’s “leave them wanting more” strategy with this movies is brilliant or idiotic.

  3. This limited-engagement gig√ɬ¢√¢‚Äö¬¨√¢‚Ǩ¬ùwhich is going to generate, what, about $35 million in a single February week?√ɬ¢√¢‚Äö¬¨√¢‚Ǩ¬ùsets the table to sell another gazillion DVDs. Let’s see U23D beat those numbers.

  4. wow, this hannah montana business continues to blow my fucking mind. i’ve never been happier NOT to have a 12 year-old daughter.

  5. All things in perspective, there have been far less talented kiddie/tween pop stars than Miley Cyrus, and on a tolerability level, she places in the mid to even upper mid range of the scale. Plus, if I were to hazard a guess, I would say the odds are favorable that she will not go the Britney/Lindsay route.

  6. I think I might have actually like it better when her old man (Billy Ray) had that syndicated TV show called “Doc”, where he played, get this…a fucking doctor. That shit was on for like 4 fucking years. It always came on at like 11:30 PM on a Sunday.

  7. To add to what Doug said, although this certainly isn’t my kind of thing, there really is a lot worse out there. When she played here in Kansas City recently the music critic for the newspaper, who isn’t easy to please, gave her a shockingly positive review.

  8. A few days ago, I bought two tickets at $26 apiece (including service charge) for a Monday night show at El Capitan. And I was getting pretty near the last available seats in the house.
I’m not dreading it at all, having reviewed the live show a few months ago and enjoyed it. Your mileage will almost certainly vary.

  9. Okay, since Wells won’t do the research, I’ll explain the title. Miley Cyrus is a singer/actress who plays a character on TV called Hannah Montana. She does half the concert as Hannah, half as herself. Not so difficult.
And please don’t ask me why I know this.

  10. But you’re missing the symbolic part–’Best of Both Worlds,’ which sadly has nothing to do with the old Lulu song, in in fact a reflection on the dichotomy of trying to live a normal life and enjoy the success of a popstar, as reflected by Cyrus and her alter-ego, Montana.

  11. At least it’s in 3-D. Bad movies are way more tolerable when you can periodically go “Woohoo! That thing just totally flew by my head.”
I cut OPEN SEASON a fair bit of slack just because the 3-D IMAX shot of a screen full of Froot Loops exploding outward was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen in a movie.

  13. According to my Aunt, the Hannah Montana concert is the best she has ever been to. And this woman has seen Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, and Van Halen (back in the 80s with Lee Roth) all live.
She’s also beginning to suffer dementia…
