  1. Finally saw the trailer last weekend. If there’s a more blatant riff on Bull Durham, I haven’t seen it. They even do the mock-fight-in-the-alley bit.

  2. Rich S: I posted months ago (half-jokingly) that the plotline sounded like “Bull Durham with footballs”, but… sheesh. I hope it’s better than it looks.

  3. Oh, and I think I mentioned this before, but I recently pulled out my 1998 Clooney interview (for Out of Sight), and it mentions Leatherheads as one of his upcoming projects.
This one has been in the pipe for awhile.

  4. I’ll admit this is a shallow observation, but has anyone else notice that Renee Zellweger has gotten progressively more unnattractive and squinty faced since Jerry Maguire?

  5. I actually found RZ quite fetching w/ the added poundage in the first Bridget Jones, but yeah, she’s hit the wall big time. But we’ll always have that one scene in Empire Records(on my short list for worst movies of the modern era).
This movie could go either way as far as I’m concerned, I wouldn’t put too much stock in the previews. It’ll all boil down to the script, but I see the 2 writers credited w/ the script don’t have much on their resumes. Rick Reilly is a sports columnist I believe and the only writing credit he has at imdb is an episode of Arli$$, which is not exactly giving me confidence.

  6. strange how negative you guys are acting on this one. i love football, and clooney can do no wrong. i have pretty high hopes for this. and josh i do remember this project stretching back a good decade – soderbergh was gonna direct it back then though.

  7. This project’s been kicking around since about 1990–Soderbergh’s ex-brother-in-law co-wrote the script. (Both writers used to work for Sports Illustrated.)

  8. Loving the Zellwegger hate: Common ground with HE posters — feeling all warm and fuzzy.
Another first: It’s rare I hate someone in a George Clooney movie more than, you know, George Clooney. Thank you lemonfaced anorexic!
This one looks like its trying waaayyy too hard. And it has been in the pipeline forever. Soderbergh looked at after “Sex, Lies.” I’ve seen the pile of drafts. No joke: 5 feet high.
    Looks lame. Hope I’m wrong.

  9. I really like The Office and John Krasinski on the show. But him playing a football star, let alone during the era “when there were no rules” is just stretching it. “Tough” is not the first word that comes to mind when I think of this guy. And Clooney, at his age, playing with no padding… I don’t think so.

  10. I really like him as an actor, but I’m probably one of the few who doesn’t love Clooney the director. This just looks “meh”.

  11. “It’s rare I hate someone in a George Clooney movie more than, you know, George Clooney.”
How can you hate George Clooney? That’s like saying you hate puppy dogs and ice cream.
Nevermind, I already know your answer to that DH.
He’s tried to speak the truth to the American people. Can’t have any of that, can we?
    Obama / Clooney ’08 !
