Slight Disparity
The only “hmmm” issue that may affect What Happens in Vegas is a cultural- chemical rapport thing, given that the Ashton Kutcher-Cameron Diaz romance may seem to some like an older-woman, younger-guy thing. (Which Kutcher is obviously familiar with in real life.) Kutcher turned 30 two months ago; Diaz is now 35. Thing is, Kutcher looks his age (if not a year or two younger) and she looks…well, like she’s almost nudging 40, no? The last time Diaz radiated anything close to a spring-chicken glow was when she costarred in There’s Something About Mary (’98).
It’s perfectly fine and cool for this kind of relationship to be depicted, of course. I don’t have any surveys to point to, but there are presumably plenty of slightly older women going out with slightly younger (or markedly younger) guys. It’s interesting. I can remember thinking when I was in my early 20s that the best women to know were in their early 30s — past the foolishness, earthier, more passionate, etc.
Five and a half years seems like a pretty minor age difference. Especially compared to the age difference in Kutcher’s marriage. This isn’t like Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones, here. Seems a non-issue.
Of course, in Hollywood a 5 year woman-older-than-man age difference like that is actually about 18 years off the norm…
True. To fit the normal Hollywood image, it should be Kutcher and Miley Cyrus.
I understand the “hmmm” issue, but I’d put a very different spin on it — if the performers don’t seem to allign it’s because Kutcher comes off like an adolescent, or at best, a frat-boy.
I’d even suggest it’s a problem endemic among American actors — they don’t want to grow up. Which is why, I think, so many Euro and Australian men are finding work here.
I thought AK was doing a romcom with Leatherface when i saw the trailer.
Well, in real life, Diaz went out with Justin Timberlake, who is more than eight years younger than her. And let’s remember who Ashton is with.
EOTW, mean but funny and true.
For me, the only “hmm” issue is that I’d rather kill myself before seeing Diaz and Kutcher in a movie this stupid-looking together.
Bingo! I thought the same thing when I first saw this trailer. Kutcher still looks/acts like he’s 25 and Diaz looks like she’s 40-45.
Awkward.
I don’t think there’s a hundred people dying to see this movie. And parents won’t be taking their kids to see this opening day.
I made a joke about making movies from commercial taglines elsewhere, but now I really wonder if this is scoring highly on awareness and so on just because of the commercials. I agree, this is the sort of movie that looks like a reasonable box office prospect but does not, in actual fact, contain a single thing anyone really wants to see.
Cameron Diaz seems like a bit of an arrested development case. Although Curtis Hanson used this to VERY GOOD effect in In Her Shoes.

I can’t think of two “actors” who are more annoying. Diaz does not seem like she is a woman in her mid-30s more like a dumb so.cal teenager. Her male lead? Not sexy or sexual. What the heck is going on with American actors? I agree with the earlier poster. Look Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Russell Crowe etc. and we have who? Aston, Seth Rogan, and some other boring guys who do not hold the screen. Thank god for Robert Downey and Denzel at least they seem like men (well they are also over 40)

Redundant.
Isn’t there controversy about Kutcher’s age? I feel he’s a few years older than he’s claimed he is. Of course, he still looks like Dude Where’s my Car age, but regardless.
And this movie looks almost as terrible to sit through as those Epic Movie movies.
Almost…
totally off topic but……don’tcha just hate it when one of your favorite restraunts burns to the ground?…
guess i won’t be eating at ‘off-vine’ next week-end after all………
another piece of hollywood gone……
Dennis Miller as the Judge is the most unappealing thing about this movie. He seems to have filmed it right before he went on O’Reilly.

why are people beating up on Wells for Diaz aging poorly? He’s right. if you want a lighthearted romcom about carefree rebound drunk sex in vegas you cast Diaz from 1998. If you’re going the more tragic, Mike Figgis route, you cast Diaz at present. (obviously they chose correctly, as the tracking #’s show, but I’m sure the movie would be better had they gotten Anna Farris playing Diaz as she did in Lost in Translation. Farris probably should have also played the Poehler part in Baby Mama. And the actor Bob Dylan in I’m not there…and maybe Frank Costello in….
Ashton Kutcher, yet another young actor who’s constantly making with the dumb guy looks.
Ashton Kutcher, Seth Rogen, and Kal Penn should star in a movie together. For the big finale, they can face off in a big dumb-guy-look showdown. See which one can pull the dumbest slack-jawed eye-popping dumb-guy face. Kind of like the big 3-way showdown at the end of The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

Alas, it’s happening because the core audience for most movies (the twenty-something Maxim-reading crowd) these days doesn’t want to grow up, either.
