You might actually like this one, Jeffrey. In my opinion, it’s by far the best book in the series. Many of the scenes are jet black, and if the ending is done properly, it will be pushing “R” territory. The trailer is certainly dank enough.
Of course, you can go back to hating the series with the final two(!) movies, especially the thuddingly obvious Christ imagery.
They always know how to make these look like they’re finally going to break the mold and be different. And they never really are. They get a little better as the kids get older and the movies get more serious, but still. There’s a lot of peril to be had in telling the tale of Young Anakin Riddle and how he became Darth Voldemort.
Am I remembering incorrectly, or aren’t Dumbledore and Voldemort supposed to be about the same age? Weren’t they kids together in the flashback scenes in books 6 and/or 7? It’s been a while since I read them, so I could be wrong. But if I’m right, it looks like they’re changing it for the movie.
Can’t wait. I’m gonna have to read HALF-BLOOD PRINCE again soon. I love the new direction of these last films, completely different from the first 4.
“Am I remembering incorrectly, or aren’t Dumbledore and Voldemort supposed to be about the same age?”
When Dumbledore was younger, he and his gay friend dabbled in the same kinds of dark magic as Voldemort later would, but he’s a teacher by the time young master Voldie turns up at Starfleet Academy.
Yeah, you are probably remembering Dumbledore’s relationship with the *other* dark wizard, Grindlewald. That I know this so readily makes me a little sad.
I keep meaning to get around to the books, but I always find something else I’d rather read first. That being said, I’ve enjoyed the films for the most part.
I just hope they do not cut the underwater zombies.
It was Grindelwald, the previous Dark wizard defeated by Dumbeldore, who was his friend briefly in their youth. Dumbledore was already a teacher at Hogwarts when he found Tom Riddle at the orphanage and brought him to Hogwarts.
That was actually a good trailer.
Thanks, folks, for the info… got these characters and their histories straight in my head now.
After much resistance I’m really getting behind this film series- pretty much since AZKABAN they’ve been getting darker and more enjoyable. And even if it’s a retread of his HOME ALONE score, John Williams’ contribution is absolutely immeasurable. Those notes instantly set the mood.
Only one more after this one and then your pain will be over…
“Only one more after this one and then your pain will be over…”
Nope. They’re splitting the last book into two movies. Harry Potter and the Really Boring Camping Trip.
Every movie in this series has been better than the previous one – how rare is that? And “Half-Blood” definitely is the best book in the series. I’m guessing the ending will be muted, however, because it would be rated R if filmed as written.
(I know, Cuaron lovers are going to blow a fuse over that first comment).
Is this that thing about a kid who finds out he’s a wizard?
Sounds kinda dull.
‘Every movie in this series has been better than the previous one’
Wow, we totally disagree on politics, but now we totally disagree on one film series as well. I thought OOP stunk, even if you hadn’t read the novel & GOF wasn’t much better.
These last two have had some really bizarre choices in adaptation/acting, Hermione’s ‘Well spotted’ retort to Ron when he asked her to the Yule Ball by first observing that she was a girl’ should’ve been dripping with venom, but was spoken pretty much like any other line. In OOP, Potter’s (book version) meltdown/(film version) quiet indignation at Grimmauld is ended w/George & Fred’s complaint that Harry was interferring with their eavesdropping efforts (we thought we heard your dulcet tones) is another example of this. Anyway, I have low expectations for all the remaining films, but will probably see them out of curiousity.
Recently, quite a few celebrities and pro athletes were said to appear on the millionaire luxury club “R I C H L O V I N G.C O M” to hook up with hot girls, ladies, models… OMG!!! Are these famous guys fond of internet dating for now?? Maybe they are indeed so rich that they feel boring sometimes to need new things? It was reported on MSN Charlie Sheen has found his girl there last May
