i saw this in France and it's definitely a film to keep an eye out for. It's surprisingly moving and done with a lovely subtlety in tone and pace... KST deserves to be lauded for this performance.
Thomas (be still my heart) has lived on and off in Paris for 30 years, and has co-starred in at least a half-dozen French films, including the hit mystery TELL NO ONE. Hmm...if she were to snag an Oscar nomination, would she be the first performer honored for roles in English and in another language?
I loved this performance from KST. Her absent look and broken soul stayed with me during few days after I saw the movie. I'm glad that she recieve praise for this.
But....it's the kind of performance that will not be recognized by AMPAS.
Cotillard has the chance to be nominated and won for a french movie because it was Piaf (a legendary figure) and a showy performance.
"I've loved you for so long" is an indie movie in french, the performance is not showy and it's not a biopic.
Deneuve, Huppert etc....did a lot of performances as subtle as this one and were not nominated so.....
At this time, I just hope that KST will be, at least, nominated at the Cesars.
note : her french is very good but she has a english accent a little bit (especially when she raise her voice). In the movie, it is explain that their mother (her character and her sister) is english but because KST's character live there more tilme, she has an accent ;)

I can think of at least one performer who has won 2 Oscars for a foreign language performance and then one in English. Robert De Niro. His dialogue in Godfather II was in Italian.
