Anxiety Town

The final art for Wayne Kramer‘s Crossing Over (Weinstein Co., 2.27), which, speak of the devil, I’m seeing early this evening. The screening starts in 25 minutes so I’d better hump it over there.

  1. Ahh good old CRASHFFIC is finally coming out. I actually really like about 60% of that design. My only qualms are the boring heads, the retarded tagline (as was pointed out on IMP it sounds like they’re trying to sneak into Canada), and the fact that a milquetoast like Jim Sturgess is already enough of a name to warrant this prominence. Also again what happened to Penn’s role?

  2. Jeez, you guys have to tear apart everything. I think the tagline is really insightful, given the negative attitude America has toward immigrants (legal and illegal) the last couple of years. The American flag tells us it’s about America immigration and has nothing to do with Canada (dig the intersecting freeways, like the lives of the characters), so the tag line is clearly about an American attitude and resistance to immigration in the current climate of job losses, suspicion of terrorism and the growing xenophobia in general. I agree Harrison looks too Photoshopped and where are the immigrant faces for a film about immigration – but it’s still an effective one sheet given the shit that usually passes for poster art today.

  3. Harrison Ford: most frustrating career of my lifetime.

I saw Ashley Judd on TV at some inaugural event and was wondering what happened to her…she’s gorgeous, charming, she can act…to me she is a movie star, but she sort of flamed out at some point.

  4. I love this poster. The row of (retouched) faces of the film’s cast is cliched but the rest is great. Love the color scheme and the design. Most posters today are boring but this one is sharp.

  5. Lawnorder: Hardly anyone has a negative attitude toward legal immigrants, but why shouldn’t we have something against illegal ones? I worked for years as a teacher in a Mexican community, and my fiancee does now – and I can personally attest to the incredible damage they are doing to state economies, particularly our educational system.

I live within a mile of Atlanta’s Mexican capital, and I truly believe anybody that doesn’t have a problem with illegal immigration doesn’t understand the depth of it. And it’s getting worse – drive down any street near me, and you’ll lose track if you try and count the pregnant Hispanic women.

  6. Rothchild Author Profile Page says …

She gave one of the best performances by a female in the last decade in Bug.

That is the most fucking correct thing I’ve read in awhile. I hope Shannon’s new-found prominence gets more people to give that movie a chance.

  7. Ashley Judd is very pretty, but that’s about it.

Read the reviews of her work on Broadway in “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” a few years ago – almost as brutal to watch her bomb as it is to read the reviews…

I just caught “Bug” on cable this morning, and Judd is pathetic…if she weren’t so damn hot, any movie with her would be unwatchable.

  8. I saw this at a test screening a back in 2007. This film has major problems. The only interesting storyline is Ray Liotta’s (who’s excellent btw). I don’t know if they’ve made changes, but there’s a scene in the third act involving some Korean kid in a grocery store, so absurd, I rolled my eyes so hard the nearly fell out of my head.

  9. The reason Ashley Judd isn’t a star anymore is because studios hardly ever make the low-tech, mid-budget star-driven thrillers that were her bread and butter. There’s a reason that Taken is going to do about $25 million this weekend… it’s a relic of a bygone and much missed genre.

Ironically, over the last two years, the two major big-studio thrillers have both been directed by Gregory Hoblit (Fracture and Untraceable). Besides, for the few that they might make with a female lead, Diane Lane is already the ‘new Ashley Judd’.

  10. What’s Tobey Maguire doing next to Liotta?

And why must everyone in every hollywood poster stare in confusion in different direction?

  11. At the moment, you’ll have a feeling of proud. The articles by China’s manufacturers are not only in a good quality, but also in a great many of quantity, and in a very lower price. For example, a same suit Made in China, might marked five to ten dollars that would cost one hundred dollars that made in Western countries. Many people couldn’t afford for it but Chinese goods are most popular now than ever before. The popularation of Chinese objcets is almost covered the market place all over the world, including the European and American markets.
