Every pompous, self-important actor in Hollywood needs to look at this clip and see how ridiculous their stands sound to average people. Those people who think they need to use their celebrity “power” in order to “make a difference” via lecturing and phony posturing should rethink their choices before they end up like Brando here.
Want to make a difference? Go get in the trenches with these people and help them. Celebrities like Annie Lennox spend months in Africa helping the children of the AIDS crisis, rather than simply talk about it at an awards show. Chit-chatting on talk shows about your temporary concerns is not the answer.
Sad to think of what he could have given us in the 1980s and 90s if life hadn’t gotten in the way. Only THE MISSOURI BREAKS and APOCALYPSE would follow this, and then nothing left to treasure. Though I should say I’m a fan of his insane performance in the Charlie Sheen DTV comedy FREE MONEY, or EASY MONEY, whatever the fuck it was. Long live The Swede.
Also LAST TANGO is or was on Hulu. He’s so sensational in that.

Why does Brando have to “get in the trenches” to legitimize his comments? He’s someone who sacrificed his time in other ways to put his money where his mouth is. His activism on behalf of the Native Americans isn’t limited to a few choice words on some fucking talk show.
And while the output of his work may have dropped off, I relish his tender, nuanced work in The Freshman and Don Juan Demarco, his slimy portrayal in The Formula, and his great if not groundbreaking work in A Dry White Season. He also lent a sense of gravitas to Superman that it would never have had without him, creating quite an impression in his short amount of screentime. Not that it was worthy of top billing or all that money…
