  1. “Show some restraint, show some discipline, and show some sense of responsibility.”

Funny, I’ve been saying the same thing to the Democrats the past few days.

  2. Josh: Yeah, that in-fighting over the new head of the RNC and that tainted peanut butter and recalled armor is a good example for Dems to follow.

  3. Translation: “I’m going to say some really harsh words — but take no action — about those greedy Wall Streeters to distract you from my $900 billion boondoggle stimulus bill.”

  4. Oh yeah…Old Testament wrath. That will go over reeeaaaaal well.

Obama -spending the Country into oblivion – getting righteous indignation at a (still) center-right country.

I can hear the liberals already. “It’s not a center right country! We won. America embraced liberalism”

Oh really? Then why has nothing been done on immigration by the Democratic Congress? You know they want to. Why did Obama embrace tax cuts, even though we all know liberals hate them? Why did Obama embrace the second Amendment and run on an anti-gay marriage platform.

It’s still a center-right Country. And we’re going to take back the House in two years.

  5. moviesquad: That’s Bush’s line. Oh, and you’re totally wrong. http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20090127/pl_politico/18018

Mowkeka: Too bad the “center-right” country supports the stimulus. http://diageohotlinepoll.com/ , courtesy of http://www.electoral-vote.com

“Then why has nothing been done on immigration by the Democratic Congress?”

Actually, the Dems reached a consensus on immigration with Bush, but the xenophobic Repug “majority” wouldn’t support it.

“Why did Obama embrace tax cuts, even though we all know liberals hate them?”

Because he was hoping an obstructionist GOP would compromise on some of his ideas? Unfortunately, they just want to continue Bushco’s failures, which is why they’ll be gone in 2010.

“Why did Obama embrace the second Amendment and run on an anti-gay marriage platform.”

I haven’t seen him embrace the second Amendment at all; he said he’s for gun control. In fact, gun nuts are stocking up in fear that they won’t be able to let schoolchildren blow their brains out at gun shows. I’m also not sure where the hell that anti-gay marriage platform is coming from, as he spoke out against Prop. 8, and has shown no indication of supporting a constitutional amendment against it. If you’re alluding to Rick Warren, that was just a way to co-opt the fundies by forcing them to decide between a President who reaches out to them or a party which tries to rely on wedge issues for votes.

  6. D.Z., in case you haven’t realized it, Obama & Bush are pretty much one in the same so it’s no wonder they both use the same “lines”.

If Obama was so big on over site, why did he support the idiotic Bush TARP bill in the first place? Why bitch about something after the fact when you had the power to do something about it before it happened?

  7. Oh, and D.Z, you’re wrong. Obama isn’t taking any action on those bonuses besides making a show of them. You’re link just discusses the new lobbying rules for new bailout funds, it doesn’t say anything about the already issued bonuses because Obama isn’t doing anything about those besides complaining.

  8. moviesquad: “If Obama was so big on over site, why did he support the idiotic Bush TARP bill in the first place? Why bitch about something after the fact when you had the power to do something about it before it happened?”

Um, because he didn’t have the power to do anything about it at the time? But hey, why do Republicans complain about terrorists they could have stopped from attacking us?

“You’re link just discusses the new lobbying rules for new bailout funds, it doesn’t say anything about the already issued bonuses because Obama isn’t doing anything about those besides complaining.”

Oh, don’t worry about that. Those bonuses won’t be going anywhere when those CEOs get arrested for fraud from pulling their own Ponzi schemes.

  9. In the last 28 years, deficits have only risen during Republican administrations, all three of them. So for the Reps. to come out and say that they don’t want to saddle our children with debt, well that’s hypocrisy.

  10. Funny: I’da said the same about all that wasted cash spent on the presidential balls and crap. Instead of spending 170 mil +, if i’da been the new prez, I’da kept it more low key, showing that wasteful spending of ANY kind is not proper at this time in our nation’s crisis.

  11. Captain’s Log:

To all the drones out there, we are through the looking glass on this recession and looking at worse. Have you noticed that everyone seems to be throwing out the old playbook – most of all the conservative think-tankers? I’m sorry but Paulson and Bernanke were appointees of the old guard and their ideas which was to spend w/o stipulations.

I think those that have raised the point that Obama will talk tough but retract the nails behind the scenes are onto something. However, this couldn’t possibly be a vindication of philosophy, not when you do the math of what the last eight years did and what happened under Reagan (yes, there was good growth but it exploded the deficit and we had to raise taxes) wrt to deficits.

The fact is they need to spend and sustain the tax cuts as it is the second will be the most immediate in stimulus. Read the papers folks – they are going to try everything as they should to stimulate the economy. In the longterm though, we are going to pay the piper in all the interest we owe on our shy high debt. Get used to the idea of making spending cuts – including defense, adjusting the SSI and Medicaid formulaires (very doable) and a tax increase at some point.

Also, there needs to be sane monetary policy and we have to be brave enough to let some stuff fail.

And while I’m on this, the immigration and gay marriage stuff? These are issues to a very small, amped up religiously bigotted bunch. I can see immigration being something we have to tighten up on but as usual, the GOP over the last 8 years w/ their sterling record wouldn’t negotiate.

I say fuck guys like boehner as they have no real vision as far as i can tell as to where to take us now.

Also, as far as Terrence Malick goes – from an earlier post. I really love the idea of the guy – just like I love the idea of being a vegetarian. However, The Thin Red Line is totally cornball with the voice over. It’s almost as if Forrest Gump was speaking to you. Let’s not build too big of a shrine to that kind of poetic waxing.

  12. For the last 8 years, WHO ran the deficit up to where it is today? Bush and his buddies did. The honeymoon is over. If the republicans won’t work with Obama, then fuck ‘em. The funny thing is that when the stimulus plan reaches the senate, it could pass. So then they will be for the stimulus after they were against it. Amazing. And Rush is the leader of this shit? Let the fun begin.

  13. We’re way past the time for Old Testament wrath. It’s Bastille Day. Drag a couple hundred of these bastards out into the streets to the guillotine and the rest may just get religion.

$20 billion in bonuses given out since the bailout began. How many people could that have kept employed?

  14. I think Rich S. has the right idea. I can’t believe that Americans are just sitting on their fat asses and taking this. They’re like rape victims with Stockholm syndrome.

But I’m sure those Wall Street hucksters are laughing hysterically at Obama’s finger waving. Tsk tsk tsk … Is Obama going to play nice politics for the next four years????

  15. Mindless, the AP story, if you can call it that, where you got that 170 million number has been debunked, and more to the point, Inaugural balls and events are largely covered by private money. You don’t really ever know what you’re talking about, do you?

  16. “And while I’m on this, the immigration and gay marriage stuff?”

Gay marriage, 100% agreed. Illegal immigration is crushing our economy, however, particularly our school districts who are overflowing with the kids of parents who pay no income taxes to support their child’s education.

My fiancee is a teacher in a Hispanic area, and I used to be one – and trust me, the problem is real. Not only have the teachers lost their promised annual raises here in Atlanta, but they can’t even make copies for the rest of the year. That’s a pretty big deal in an elementary school.

  17. Let me explain something to all the liberal kooks out there:

When the Government spends money it doesn’t have, that causes inflation. We’re spending a trillion dollars with this “stimulus” bill that we don’t have. Does that sound like sound economics to you? You do realize that at some point we’ll have to pay that, right? Please, somebody, anybody display some common sense and reason…

You’re complaining about a 20 billion dollar bonus, when our government is spending 1 trillion dollars of my children’s money? Wait, I’m under 30. That’s my money! You spoiled, bratty baby boomers are spending my money! The “Me Generation” at work…

D.Z., do you not follow politics? Democrats were in control of Congress when they reached the immigration consensus with Bush. They could get any immigration bill they wanted through the House and only needed a few Republican defectors (which they easily had) in the Senate. The reason the Immigration Bill went down in flames was because the American people screamed at their elected officials. Democrats knew there would be electoral consequences if they passed it. How much do you want to bet nothing gets done on this issue in the next two years (even with big Democratic majorities in both houses).

Guns – Perhaps you missed Joe Biden’s Charlton Heston moment. And don’t you dare say “Well, that wasn’t Obama.” That was well planned and co-ordinated by the Obama campaign.

Gay Marriage – Biden and Obama both oppose it.

This Bush (oops, I mean Obama) stimulus bill won’t work! And in two years, when Americans are asking about the 4 million jobs Obama promised, Republicans will take back the House (1994 all over again!) Welcome to the reality of governing liberals.

  18. BurmaShave: It’s a dang shame when Waits fans can’t be friendly on a site of love.

I didn’t see the story debunking the 170 figure. What was it for real? If it was over a mil, it was too much. Obama would scored a home run that week, instead of a triple if he’d just said no to allthe balls he attended, maybe just doing onelow key affair. it would speaks volumes to us fiscally cautious indies who helped get him electedon the promise that he was going to cut the excess of the DC. I’m for the dude, I just think that cheaper can be better. Cut the pork out and get the thing passed. We’re still not at the bottom of this thing but e need folks with level heads and bold ideas to help this country turn around and it will, just is going to take more han 8 yrs to do it.

Obama’s already running for his next term, as all first term prez do from their first day, so he has to realize the batle will be an uphill one. People vote on the economy first and if it is still crappy in 4 yrs, with no end in sight, he might get thrown out of there. I’m rooting for the dude but people are watching and that honeymoon period is already over, if it ever was there.

    I wish him luck.

  19. Apologies for my spelling, grammar errors. In this week alone, an uncle died lastn ight, my month old son has been on a vent with RSV for the last week and just came off of it and I am doing some hella graduate research. Life is short and goes VERY fast!!!

  20. Newsflash (for those who smoked pot through 12th grade Government class):

Democrats only need one or two Republican Senators (depending on how Al Franken’s race turns out) to get ANY piece of legislation through Congress and onto the President’s desk. ANY Bill they want! Even in the Republican peak, we never had that kind of power.

And yet, if you listen to the liberal whiners, they STILL blame Republicans. Grow up. You own the Government. Start governing.

  21. Given the results of the election, and this week’s gallup poll showing that a whopping 5 states have more registered Reps than Dems, anyone still trying to call it a “center-right” country is kinda hard not to laugh at.

But it’s not polite to laugh at the delusional.

  22. In some ways, whatever money was spent on balls was just a form of crowd control — people were going to be coming to Washington for this with or without a party, and someone’s private money was going to be spent on it. (And in any event, it’s private money spent in a local, economy-stimulating way.)

  23. “Democrats only need one or two Republican Senators (depending on how Al Franken’s race turns out) to get ANY piece of legislation through Congress and onto the President’s desk.Even in the Republican peak, we never had that kind of power.

  24. I didn’t see any Republican complaining when Wall Street received $700 billion, no questions ask. Now that Obama wants to actually invest in the real people, suddenly the Republicans are all so “responsible”.

In 10 days in office, Obama did more good than Bush did in 8 years. It’ll take a lot of time to clean up all the garbage that this stupid “president”, who stole the presidency, did to America and the world. So maybe conservatives should shut the hell up for once.

  25. Josh: “Illegal immigration is crushing our economy, however, particularly our school districts who are overflowing with the kids of parents who pay no income taxes to support their child’s education.”

Well, actually, it’s the top 1% who don’t pay taxes. I imagine illegals would pay their part, though, if they weren’t being ripped off by said corporations.

Mowkeka: “When the Government spends money it doesn’t hav1e, that causes inflation. We’re spending a trillion dollars with this “stimulus” bill that we don’t have. Does that sound like sound economics to you? ”

It sounded like economics to the Republicans when it was going to an illegal war…

“You do realize that at some point we’ll have to pay that, right?”

Well, we had a surplus until Bush came along…

“You’re complaining about a 20 billion dollar bonus, when our government is spending 1 trillion dollars of my children’s money? Wait, I’m under 30. That’s my money! You spoiled, bratty baby boomers are spending my money!”

Well, if you want to save money, you could always move to the Ukraine and China. They didn’t think that it was worth blowing taxpayers’ money on frivolous things like better infrastructure and safety, either. And they still managed to do alright in that earthquake and nuclear meltdown and tainted milk scare-not like we “nation of whiners”, anyway.

“Democrats were in control of Congress when they reached the immigration consensus with Bush. They could get any immigration bill they wanted through the House and only needed a few Republican defectors (which they easily had) in the Senate.”

They were in control of the House. But the Senate Republicans backed down on voting for immigration.

“Biden and Obama both oppose it.”

They oppose it on a personal level. They do not believe in supporting a constitutional amendment against it.

“And in two years, when Americans are asking about the 4 million jobs Obama promised, Republicans will take back the House (1994 all over again!)”

You don’t seem to get that the 1994 win was attributed to making people paranoid about “big government”, something which the American people have already accepted over Bushonomics. If you want another mid-term win even close to ’94, you’re gonna have to be able to prove: 1)You’re not a Bush apologist, and 2)You care about the inevitable non-white male demographic changes to be expected in the upcoming census. Obama’s got nothing to worry about, since he’s not on trial here.

“Even in the Republican peak, we never had that kind of power.”

Bowen: “What I love? He’s going to send that tax-cheating fraudster Geithner to talk to them about it.”

Actually, he paid his taxes. The same can’t be said about Ted Stevens, though.

  26. At the moment, you’ll have a feeling of proud. The articles by China’s manufacturers are not only in a good quality, but also in a great many of quantity, and in a very lower price. For example, a same suit Made in China, might marked five to ten dollars that would cost one hundred dollars that made in Western countries. Many people couldn’t afford for it but Chinese goods are most popular now than ever before. The popularation of Chinese objcets is almost covered the market place all over the world, including the European and American markets.
