Storaro Styrofoam
I woke up this morning and looked up at the ceiling — or rather, at the low-cost bullshit styrofoam ceiling (favored by low-end contractors, all the rage in North Bergen) that I’m stuck with for the time being. And it hit me that each styrofoam rectangle is precisely the same proportion as a widescreen 70mm aspect ratio — 2.21 to 1. I was recalling this and that scene from Apocalypse Now, particularly Martin Sheen inside that bamboo cage. This is my life.
Those styrofoam boards were a prankster’s best friend back in grade school for me — if you ever needed a pencil…

funny that you should mention Storaro and aspect ratio in the same breath. Though not courting the same level of criticism as Friedkin and his recent ‘revision’ of The French Connection Storaro had a similar crack at changing some of his past work on DVD;

Those panels are grim.
They may be shooting each other outside, but my building dates back to the Twenties and my ceilings are high and solid. I’m pretty sure we’ll make it through the Big One. I just hope I’m home when it hits.
I “project” films on flat surfaces, too. I just hope that Dr. Manhattan doesn’t sneak into your Apocalypse Now visions.
