Photos For What?

Yesterday morning a 747 Air Force One and an F16 fighter jet buzzed lower Manhattan at low altitude, causing thousands to fear the worst. The reason for the flyover was a photo op. This prompted Darth Mojo to write this morning that “not only was this stunt thoughtless and cruel — it was totally unnecessary. Hasn’t the government heard of CGI? Why didn’t the guys who wanted shots of a Manhattan flyover just call Hollywood? They can do fake planes like nobody’s business.”

  1. Who could possibly have thought this was a good idea? This is the kind of thing that people get fired over…of course, that’s in the real world. If the U.S. Government were the real world, Janet Napolitano would have been shitcanned last week.

  2. Straight-up funniest news story in recent memory!

People evacuating buildings, running around on the streets like it’s a 1950′s B-movie.

  3. There will come a time in the future that New Yorkers won’t go into a panic everytime a plane flies over Manhattan. I guess this isn’t yet that time.

  4. By the way, the feds told city and state agencies about the flyover. It’s their fault that the information wasn’t properly vetted and disseminated. So if anyone should be fired over this, blame New York.

  5. This is all part of Dick Cheney proving that he still has sleeper agents in the White House – he wanted to make Manhattanites lose it.

  6. Wrecktem, the feds explicitly told state/city authorities not to disseminate the information. So if anyone should be fired … it’s still the Feds.

  7. So the state and city authorities are so stupid that they’re just going to sit on that info, knowing that it might cause a panic? Sorry, it’s the local gov.

  8. It’s all cool…gaffes this big don’t count in the first year. White House gets the Special Olympics Pass on this one.

  9. Of course it’s not personally Obama’s fault, but it speaks to the larger problem of the federal government when they’ll spend tens – if not hundreds – of thousands of dollars of taxpayer money on a goddamn photo op.

  10. $400k for a real plane buzzing buildings or a million for CGI?

No wonder the government went for reality. They’re broke from bailing out AIG.

  11. The government should not be in the business of creating and sending out fake or doctored photos. Seriously, you really want to go down that slippery slope?

  12. I’m still confused about the purpose of this photo-op. A low flying 747 over NYC, Air Force One or not, is supposed to be a good thing? I don’t get it.

  13. It’s the local gov! It’s the feds! Are you sure it’s not the Vatican? How about DONT FUCKING BUZZ A CITY THAT GOT HIT BY TWO PLANES KILLING 3000 PEOPLE.

  14. The nike air force ones would even have numerous refreshed editions which achieves almost a total of 800 million dollars annually as a revenue account. Our team here in BAK even mentioned once in our postings that Nelly even added something exciting to it by coming up with a song called the Air Force Ones as an expression of his love for the iconic product. Nelly, as a leading hip hop sensation made an amazing influence to the overall popularity standing of the Nike shoe model.
