The following IMDB post about Greg Mottola's Paul, which starts filming later this month, is apparently legit: "A comedy about being an alien in America, even if you're not from outer space. Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Jason Bateman Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig and Sigourney Weaver costarring. Directed by Mottola, written by Pegg and Frost, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner producing, Universal distributing, etc.
Paul is the story of Graham Willy (Pegg) and Clive Gollings (Frost), two sci-fi enthusiasts from the UK, who alight from a visit to San Diego Comic Con to Nevada's Area 51 for a spot of UFO tourism. But their trip takes a "sudden and dramatic turn when the boys happen upon a crashed government vehicle containing an alien called Paul (voiced by Rogen)," blah blah. They embark upon an adventure," blah blah. Struggling to help Paul get ET-home while trying to stay ahead of the tenacious government operative, Agent Lorenzo Zoil (Bateman) and Ruth's zealous, shotgun-toting, bible-bashing father," blah blah.
Paul will film in the San Diego and Santa Fe areas from June until August.

Adventureland was a sweet little movie.
Was not a fan at all of Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz, but this one sounds like a lot of fun.

It would be neat if during the Comic Con portion, Pegg would do a cameo as Pegg/Scotty (or Pegg/Tim from Spaced) while Pegg/Graham Willy looked on from the audience.

Not a fan of Shaun of the Dead? - That's craziness.
Coincidentally, I watched it again last night, and the film is too melodramatic for its own good (there's no crying in zombie movies as far as i'm concerned) - but it was still entertaining as hell in spite of that.
I like Mottola's efforts so far but he doesn't seem clever enough. I think this would be better if Wright was directing it.

The Paul script is widely available online, and very funny. The best part is a quick flashback where Paul becomes a Hollywood-advisor on Alien movies and tries to convince Spielberg that less is more. This will be good.

This will be ace. Why the cynicism from Wells? Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz were both fantastic, and Spaced is a legend of a sitcom.
Pegg was making my lips shit with laughter back when I was a wee nipper watching Big Train. A surreal and hilarious sketch show on the BBC in the late '90s, or around that time.

No disrespect to Mottola, maker of funny movies, but Pegg/Frost/Wright is clearly a comedy team and is practically a comedy organism. I realize Wright is off making a non-Pegg movie (which I trust will be wonderful), but this seems so clearly the next chapter in the P/F/W genre-exploding series that it makes me very nervous to see it Wrightless.

Actionman, I'm surprised. I could understand yesterday's talk about auteur Michael Bay. But not caring for Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz, which is like an Agatha Christie movie directed by Michael Bay, just baffles me. I think both films are tremendous, and some of the best written movies in recent memory, not just in funny lines, but also in terms of structure and characterization.
And Bent, there can be crying in romantic comedies that just happen to feature zombies.
As for this movie, I'm excited. It might be slight, but it'll still be better than 85% of the rest of the movies released in the year.

I welcome the addition of Simon Pegg and Frost into the Apatow Universe. This is the greatest comedy unification since Woody Allen and Mel Brooks were writing for Sid Ceaser, and can only prolong their collaborative output well into the next decade. God willing.

Winchester -- Shaun of the Dead bored me to tears and I just didn't think Hot Fuzz was all that funny. I remember sort of nodding off at the Arclight when I saw it. Maybe I need to see it again.

Adventureland for me is still the best film of the year. It bothers me to this day how Fast & Furious swept it under the rug.
Paul looks like a new cult classic.

I agree with The Winchester (nice nod to the film) about the structure of the Hot Fuzz and, particularly, the Shaun of the Dead scripts. Not a throwaway line in the entire thing - so tight, clever and well-thought out. Rare comedies that really reward the viewer for paying attention to the story as well as the jokes.

No, you don't. I don't particularly dislike either movie, but Hot Fuzz and Shaun are both genteel, cutesy BRITISH BULLSHIT for the kind of college-humor smartasses who like Monty Python. (Speaking of BULLSHIT...)
Everyone went on about how both were such AFFECTIONATE parodies that nonetheless worked in their own right as zombie and action movie, respectively, but NOT REALLY. Too cutesy, too boring to look at it, too British... Mostly I just want to know why Pegg strides in ON A FUCKING HORSE in Fuzz, or what that Eyes Wide Shut/Ninth Gate cloaked mystery bullshit was about. That stuff would NEVER be in a Bruckheimer or Bigelow movie, so why go off on that detour?
It'd be like if I made a "SPOT-ON PARODY OF THE TERMINATOR UNIVERSE" then had a twenty-minute rodeo sequence set in the Deep South with Clyde the Orangutan and Bronco Billy and Boss Hogg.
