Camel-Colored Overcoat

I’m thinking I might do the odd thing and not sit here all day and write column stories. I’ve been telling myself I need to visit the Francis Bacon exhibit at the Met before it closes in August, and I’m thinking this is the day. I’ve worshipped his paintings nearly all my life, starting with my first viewing of Last Tango in Paris.

  1. Go! Like movies need to been seen in a theater, Bacon’s paintings need to be seen in a gallery, in the flesh, as it were. And you get to see yourself reflected in the glass covering the art.

Brando and Bacon still retain their heavyweight status for me… so seeing Tango back in the day at the Trans-Lux East remains a pretty staggering experience.

  2. But…but…if you don’t update all day, what are the rest of us supposed to do? Go outside? Read a book? Surely you jest, sir.

  3. It does seem like bad timing, actually. You set your own schedule, so why go on a Sunday when it’s super crowded? You should go tomorrow. Today is also the first say it hasn’t rained in a month. It’s beautiful out. After careful consideration, I believe you have made the wrong choice.

  4. “Why am I now picturing Jeff grabbing his head and yelling like Brando in that first crane-down shot of Last Tango?”

    “Fucking MRTRIBECA!!!!!”

  5. It’s a great exhibit, Jeff, and well worth checking out. They’re also showing Michelangelo’s first painting (made when he was all of 12).
