Mess

There’s just no end to the ick factor in the Michael Jackson tragedy. Everything that’s being reported sounds sordid and sad. Or it’s been made up. The Sun posted a story today about the late pop singer’s ghastly physical state — appalling — and then TMZ reported that the story is fake. And 95% of the world is repeating the same mantra — “Ignore the facts, deny the damage, ignore what Michael Jackson became — just listen to the music and focus only on his peak-of-popularity years in the ’80s and early ’90s.”

I found it moderately unpleasant to watch Al SharptonAl Sharpton? — and Joe Jackson hold a news conference this morning about delayed funeral arrangements for Michael, matters of executorship and custody of the kids, etc. Because there was no shaking off the feeling that these guys are basically hustlers looking to self-promote, revive the MJ brand, get their cut, bask in media attention, spread around the b.s. and blah-blah.

And on top of all this Universal has decided to cut the 100% non-offensive LaToya Jackson scene out of Bruno altogether.

  1. “Ignore the facts, deny the damage ignore what Michael Jackson became — just listen to the music and focus only on his peak-of-popularity years in the ’80s and early ’90s.”

Meanwhile, you’re linking to the fucking SUN Jeffrey. The SUN.

“Because there was no shaking off the feeling that these guys are basically hustlers looking to self-promote, revive the MJ brand, get their cut, bask in media attention, and spread around the b.s.”

This I agree with 100%. Did you see the CNN interview with Joe where he brought his lawyer up to answer questions and basically promoted his new business dealings? SICKENING:

  2. TMZ has the most uptodate information and it’s 99% true. They discard the info that was given to them that was false.

In any event, this is going to be a BIG mess. And anytime I see Joe Jackson in the picture (where are his siblings) I know this is f***cked up. Please somebody find the will FAST!

  3. Sharpton and Jesse Jackson were on TV Thurs nite within a half-hour of each other, each calling himself “a friend and spritual adviser” to MJ and family. Can’t help but think that if Michael hadn’t grown up with Jeezus being shoved down his throat by an abusive father he might’ve ended up with a healthier attitude towards his sexuality (whatever it was).

  4. Joe Jackson & Al Sharpton should get stranded on a deserted island never to be heard from again.

Al: Please. Pretty please. Go Away. FOREVER!

Jeff : I know MJ disgusts you, and rightly so, but his father seriously f*cked him up. Split your disgust with daddy.

  5. I should mention that the NY Post picked up The Sun’s story and practically verbatim, reported the same stuff this morning.

I wish Joe Jackson would have to take on Michael’s 400 million of debt. Scumbag du Jour.

  6. Boy, that Joe Jackson’s a peach, huh? KInda makes Colonel Tom Parker look like St. Francis.

Still, metaphorically stamping your feet and demanding that the benighted 95% of the world get with your enlightened program really only exacerbates the problem you’re so angry about. To acknowledge celebrity culture in any way only serves to validate it, whatever it is you THINK you’re doing. If you can’t live with that fact, might as well go into Lionel Trilling studies or something. Which I’m looking into.

  7. But Glenn! It’s a monochrome swarm of Egyptian mosquitoes!

In all seriousness, I tend to agree with Mr. Kenny. You’re not changing too many hearts and minds, Jeff. Not that you should stuff it. By all means, I want you to shout whatever you believe to the rafters. That’s why I come here. But understand the futility, at the very least.

  8. Joe Jackson, whadda shit. Speaking of Stringer Bell, though, I loved Idris Elba for pointedly offering condolences to Katherine Jackson and the family during the BET Awards after a few too many ppl “thanked” Joe, I mean holy shit.

  9. MJ can’t even be left alone in peace after his death. Poor guy. He really had some demons, didn’t he.

  10. You found it “moderately unpleasant” to see Sharpton and Papa Joe gnawing the bones? Next you’ll saw using a giant spittoon as a hot tub was “moderately refreshing.”

  11. Stringer – I believe that is the foundation of democracy you’re talking about. No flag burning allowed around here, you dirty traitor!

  12. As far as Joe Jackson getting a hold of his children, I imagine the grave will come pre-assembled with the spinning mechanism.

  13. “There’s just no end to the ick factor in the Michael Jackson tragedy.”

Probably because, unlike Anna Nicole, there are enough people who’d care about his life story.

  14. People are forgetting this is “temporary” custody. The will has yet to surface. Once the will surfaces all hell will let loose because I believe MJ might be crazy but he wasn’t stupid. Each of them has an attorney, that’s why they’re maneuvering like this.

  15. I could not believe that Joe Jackson interview on CNN when I saw it last night. What an unbelievable scumbag. Waltzing around an awards show having the time of his life, hyping his new record company…so gross.

  16. I had a similar reation to Welles until yesterday, when I went to a club and it was packed, on a monday night, with people doing Jackson-moves and almost every record being som remix or variation on a Michael Jackson melody. I have to say it, the guy was brilliant! It hit me just how man classic danceflorr singles the guy made. Not even a possible (unproven) scumbag like Michael Jackson should be able to take that Michael Jackson away from us.

  17. MAGGA … read the link I provided above for some insight into how the molestation charges came to be. I was more than a surprised by some information. Was he inapprorpiate? YES. Criminal? Not so sure after reading that.

And nothing puts me in a better mood than the opening swirl of Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough.
