Update: The opening eIght minutes from The Hurt Locker appeared this morning on Trailer Addict. I for one thought it was a brilliant ploy on Summit's part to help people understand what the film is like and get them into it. Then a columnist friend informed that the clip was "siphoned off the servers of either Summit or Hulu, where it was supposed to premiere. It's straight-up scumbag piracy. I'm hoping you'll take it down so that people stop giving that pirate site traffic." And I was about to when I realized the footage itself had been removed. I still say that that eight-minute clip was enticing.

I'm mixed on this use of opening sequences as a marketing tool. On one hand, you can really get a feel for tone in those first few minutes which can help you avoid a dud. On the other hand, it kind sucks not going in clean if you happen to watch one. Which is why I won't watch this clip.
(I will pay no attention to the insane ramblings above.)

The less I see of a movie before it comes out, the better.
There are the trailers, the TV spots, the dozen clips, the opening 10 minutes, the discussions on the movie sites, the reviews... all that stuff can affect the experience negatively.
Sometimes, even the movie poster can ruin it. For example, as tense as the Hurt Locker poster is (which is good for the marketing), I think it ruins a pivotal moment in the movie when the protagonist realises that he has to dismantle not one, not two, but 6 bombs connected to each other. If I hadn't seen that on the poster, it would've been an "oh shit" moment for me in the theatre.

They usually can't, buster.
So is it Travis, Tommysunshine or Mowkeka? We always have two or three of these guys running around screaming and waving their middle fingers despite the purges.
(I personally don't get it. I don't hang around on Bad Hollywood every day, just waiting for something to offend me so I can jump in and say "Aha!Igotyouyouhypocriteyoucan'thandlethetruth!" I guess it takes a certain type, with a lot of free time and the propensity to imitate a housefly.)
Anyway, Wells ought to be able to track the source of these comments.
Back to reality: I don't wanna see ANY freaking footage of this movie until it opens here later this week. I don't even wanna see the trailer again. And this thing had better be GOOD after an eternity of hype on this site.

While it appears there are several sides who are culpable in TrailerAddict's usurping Hulu's promised exclusive, that TA threatened to release the link to Summit's FTP site (http://twitter.com/TrailerAddict/status/2501108412) will hurt many of us film sites who do play by the rules.
It's actions like this that make studios and distributors think less of onliners, and the sad part is that TA either does not realize this or does not care.

You are absolutely right about the six bombs moment, Steven. That was one of my favorite moments in the film and once you see him pull one up you're going to know what's coming if you've seen the poster.
