Seriously, this was inevitable. Clint's work is pure bait that has no longevity. Seriously who actually still talks about Mystic River or Million Dollar Baby? He seems like he's just pandering to the academy as much as possible so he can die as "Clint Eastwood, director" instead of "Dirty Harry" or "that guy who always played cowboys".

Interesting observation by Mr. Poland, that critics are uneasy with feelings, whereas "regular" viewers are not. A relative observation, of course, but sometimes reviewers in my mind develope a vocabulary confined by the review as a genre, hereby shortchanging an intimate take on a film as an experience, wit a certain lack of "imagination" as it is put by Poland, which I believe is Todd McCarthy has headed with his Variety review. Another example of his to illustrate this is his review of The New World.

I haven't seen The Lovely Bones, but my intuition tells me Poland strikes an essential cord with his review...

Neither of these movies will succeed - there's no "pulse" - they are too soft, too "reverent" - I get it, Mandela is a saint - yet as appalling as I find the premise of The Blind Side, there's at least some buttons being pushed there - any movie having Sandra Bullock talking shit to gangsta's in their own neighborhood has at least some sort of fire........and props to John Lee Hancock securing himself a few more years of work now........
