Man in Black Hat

I don't see why there's friction between documentarian Alex Gibney and director George Hickenlooper over the use of the term "Casino Jack" in the titles of their respective Jack Abramoff films. HIckenlooper's film, a feature starring Kevin Spacey as Abramoff, is called Casino Jack, and Gibney's is called Casino Jack: The United States of Money. I can tell the two apart easily. Both could play Sundance 2010...maybe.

My solution would be for Hickenlooper to keep the CASINO JACK title and Gibney to call his doeumentary THE UNITED STATES OF MONEY.

HICKENLOOPER POWER.

Underrated. Factory Girl ruled, Sienna should've been nominated.

Really? You can't see why the exhibs will have kittens unless one of them backs down and retitles their doc?

Whats surprising is that you aren't raising the most obvious question, why did it take this long for either one to come out? He first pled guilty back in Jan of '06, which should have started the ball rolling on these docs. His final quilty plea was last year, Sept 08 which the filmmakers should have been anticipating in order to include it before a final release last fall when the election would have created the best conditions for interest in the subject.

At this point, it's a little late.

Deathtongue, I fail to see what your comment has to do with Roman Polanski.

Gibney never got an interview with Abramoff. I had five prison interviews with Abramoff. Gibney is a very talented filmmaker, but without an interview with Abramoff in his movie, I think there might remain a question of balance.

I'm not sure why Gibney is threatening to sue me? I don't believe I've ever read anything on his film. I didn't even know it existed until Abramoff told me about it.

Yr high, Lex. Sienna Miller is beautiful and makes generally makes anything she's in worth watching, but Factory Girl was so bad that I turned it off after 20 minutes.

If Split Screen was still on IFC, I'd have you two settle it properly - Texas Hold'em for the right to Casino Jack.

Worst title fight now is between Taylor Hackford and Dennis Hof over "Love Ranch." They're claiming Hof can't run a brothel with the name even though the screenwriters got the title from their interview with Hof.

Milkman, awww. The the next 75 minutes really rocks. Promise. How about if I buy it for you out of the remainder bin at Best Buy so you can have a second peak.

How can a documentary be made w/o interviewing the subject, if still living? I mean, a valid one.

and Geroge H. - Factory Girl could have been great if you hadn't lost control to Harvey who butchered it. and Dylan hadn't been so cranky.

FYI. There are three cuts of Factory Girl. One is the very original director's cut which is on YouTube and has no voice over. It's the raw version that I think is emotionally the purest.

There is the Harvey butchered version which was ONLY rushed to theaters and Academy screeners after a raced four week editing job (after additional new scenes were shot). That version plays like an 85 minute trailer that is emotionally alienating with too much voice over.

Then there is the "Sexy Unrated Version" which is the one most folks have seen released in the U.S. and U.K. only. I call this the Harvey/Hickenlooper version in which Harvey allowed me to go back to the cutting room and make the fixes that should have been done for the raced theatrical release. The picture might have had a different fate.
