The Golden Globe nominations were announced this morning. (Here's the Indiewire link.) Up In The Air accumlated six nominations, and Nine did fairly well with a Best Picture Comedy/Music nomination plus ones for Daniel Day Lewis and the very deserving Marion Cotillard.
The only surprise I'm seeing thus far is their decision to place Meryl Streep's Julie & Julia performance into the Best Actress Comedy or Musical category, thus leaving the Best Actress competish open to Carey Mulligan (who's been strangely losing to Streep in the critics awards so far). Categorizing Streep's performance as Julia Child under comedy is, of course, ludicrous, but that's standard HFPA thinking.
They also nominated Streep in the Comedy/Musical category for her It's Complicated performance, so they're obviously planning to give her the award.
The only other standout is Tobey Maguire getting Best Actor-nominated for his madman performance in Brothers. Also well deserved.
I can't be bothered to paste and reformat all the nominees so here's the Variety story.

Why do they have to invite Justin Timberlake to these things like he's some kind of Hollywood royalty?
Isn't it bad enough when he shows up at the Vibe, Source, and NAACP Awards year in and out and somehow WINS SHIT while the entirely black audience stares on just kind of shrugging at this boy-band douche stealing their moment?
Now he's gotta emcee Hollywood events and rub elbows with real movie stars?
I think the most annoying thing about it is, he's actually pretty good at everything he tries -- acting, comedy, emceeing, hosting, of course music. He's just good enough to kind of pull it off, but still... man, ALL OF AMERICA should SUE THEIR PARENTS for not putting them on the Mickey Mouse Club, because this dude's never known a boring, solitary, lonesome, unhappy or stressful day in his life.

I'm still dumb-founded that The Hangover was nominated for Best Comedy over In the Loop. It is officially the most overrated movie of the year. Dude Where's My Car meets Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, and not half as good as either.
But hey, the Michael Stuhlbarg nomination is great, even if Jeremy Renner got shut out.

Exactly. I don't recall any FYC ads for Dude Where's My Car, or talk of a Best Actor nomination for Ashton Kutcher a la Zach Galifianakis. It has a 29% rating on Rotten Tomatoes while The Hangover has a 78% rating. Are you kidding me?

Substitute "Borat" and it's 2006 all over again!
I'm happy with the 500 Days of summer love, especially Joseph Gordon Levitt's nomination, but would rather Zooey D. over Julia Roberts. (Thought she was insufferable in that movie).
And I would take Sam Rockwell for Moon over Tobey Maguire. But I live in a fantasy world.

Ryan Bingham's great, and pretty well known and respected- check out some of his music.
it is funny that he's got the same name as clooney's character though- two nominations for two different Ryan Bingham's at the Oscars this year.

How the hell did IN THE LOOP not get nominated for Best Comedy?!? That bites, especially considering it lost out to the likes of (500) DAYS OF SUMMER (which I disliked), THE HANGOVER (which I didn't even finish - Zach Galifianakis simply is not funny, IMHO), and JULIE & JULIA (agree with the consensus - the Julia parts are good, the Julie ones, not so much, and I agree with Jeff that Streep, while good, is hardly the best performance of the year).
The drama category is better - I'm not a huge fan of PRECIOUS, but I'm not going to argue the point, and aside from AVATAR, which I haven't seen yet, the other three all deserve to be there. As for the performances, there are many I still haven't seen, so I can't really comment except to say I'm very happy for Michael Stuhlbarg, Woody Harrelson, and yes, Julia Roberts (as one who still admits to liking DUPLICITY and her in it), but I feel Ben Foster, Abbie Cornish, and Peter Capaldi got screwed.
