Hitler Meets Christ

Three years after its debut at the 2007 Cinequest Film Festival, Michael Moriarty and Brian Keown‘s Hitler Meets Christ will be available on DVD on 3.23.

Pic is “a discussion between two mentally ill vagabonds who only believe themselves to be Der Fuhrer and the Savior, set against Vancouver’s wine country on East Hastings Street,” said one summary.

In his capsule review, Metroactive’s Richard Von Busack wrote the following: “Like Nixon, Hitler is a part that is good for any actor, and Moriarty does it proud, even with just the hint of the famous mustache visible above the grizzled beard. His Hitler is scatological and taunting.

“But he doesn’t seriously miss his lost empire. What he seeks, instead, is death and oblivion — a nothingness he can only achieve by repenting, as if surrendering to God’s son. Dismissing this ultimate act of egocide, Hitler tells Jesus, ‘You’re crazier than Rudolph Hess.’ The intriguing idea never transcends the level of a squabble.”

  10. Looks horrible. That said, East Hastings Street is like a post apocalyptic hell pit that is almost unimaginable but real. It’s right out of Children of men and The Road. It’ll be cleaned up for a few weeks starting next week, but it really has to be seen to be believed; best visited from behind locked doors of a rental car at night. The amount of human misery staggering along the street under the most depressing, decaying of buildings… it’s incredible.

    It’s the place where Willie Pickton would visit to pick up prostitutes to later murder on his pig farm; he got at least 50 girls before anyone even noticed, or cared. It’s also the place to pick up the cheapest and most potent weed you will ever partake in your whole life.5 bucks will leave you a gibbering man-child for the better part of an extended lost weekend.

    Too bad the single film shot there is this piece of shit. It deserves something transcendant.

  24. Cope, Hardwick seemed a nice enough guy; I used to do standup, and did a lot of open mikes. Er, should say I ONLY did open mikes, since I never graduated to the next level. But even established dudes like Oswalt and Posehn and Hardwick would hit the good stages on open mike night just to try stuff out; He wouldn’t know me from a hole in the ground, but the handful of times we were there on the same night, Hardwick just seemed like any other working schmo comic, certainly didn’t pull any “HEY I HOSTED SINGLED OUT” shit with the no-names and seemed supportive enough.

  25. Awesome concept. I know a buddy of mine makes use of templates. This stuff is great for if you append rows to a grid or list.

    Also, it would probably be great for having some sort of “viewer”. You could have a list of documents, and use jQuery to get JSON data, then put the data into the template. Something like viewing invoices or other formatted docs.

    Just to be picky too, according to w3schools.com, the “value” tag is deprecated? But I guess it is still technically valid. I like to be “valid” when I can :)
