Pile Just Got Higher

At the just concluded BAFTA awards in London, Kathryn Bigelow‘s The Hurt Locker has taken the awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay (won by Mark Boal), Best Editing, Best Cinematography (Barry Ackroyd) and Best Sound.

On top of which An Education‘s Carey Mulligan won for Best Actress, and A Single Man‘s Colin Firth won for Best Actor. Christoph Waltz and Mo’Nique, of course, won for Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress.

  1. An Education was beaten by Fish Tank for Best British Film, which has to be an upset of sorts. Mulligan was the only award for the film, which is unusual as the BAFTAs usually go mad for British films.

K-Stew won an award. I want to read LexG’s reactions to her acceptance speech.

  3. Hmmm…Mulligan won Best Actress, but lost “Rising Star” to K-Stew? That’s a little odd, but I guess it worked out in the end. Can you imagine if she would have lost Best Actress, though? I bet all those people trying to spread the wealth would automatically wish they could change their newcomer vote.

  5. Not too many complaints, apart from Up in the Air getting the adapted screenplay nod over An Education. And Moon over the same film for Best British Film. Which is a travesty, naturally…… (I really liked An Education)

  7. Vanessa Redgrave was a class act tonight. The way she conducted herself was so regal and beautiful. Even when she did the curtsy to Prince William, she was the one who apperead like royalty. I found this especially famusing because she has spoken quite brazenly in the past about abolishing the monarch in the UK and becoming a republican.

I have to say though Prince William was a waste of a presenter

  9. I gotta figure this is the final nail in the coffin for Avatar’s Best Picture chances. Maybe Inglourious sneaks in and wins, but not likely. It’s clear Avatar peaked at the Globes and is now DONE.

  11. Sometimes I just run out of superlatives… but K-Stew really is human perfection. Her post-win interview, all halting, awkward, serious, and guessing? SO incredibly sexy.

Would’ve been awesome if Mulligan and K-Stew helped each other straighten their little outfits and did a happy dance together or tried on some shoes together or something.

I want them to be LITTLE FRIENDS!!!!

  13. LexG … you should check out Newsweek’s Oscar Roundtable where the guys drool over Carey Mulligan’s toes. Her feet are supposedly very fetching.
