My movie-monk life won't be fulfilled, I've just decided, until I visit the site where Alfred Hitchcock and Cary Grant shot the crop-dusting scene from North by Northwest. For whatever reason I've never learned before today where the location actually was. It's just east of the intersection of Corcoran Road and Garces Highway (155) outside the towns of Wasco and Delano, near Highway 46 off interstate 5.

Nice. Also, Paso Robles is a great little wine town, if you're into that kinda thing.

I enjoy going to bizarre movie locales like that one, I once drove to the Trona Pinnacles (near Death Valley) used in the remake of Planet of the Apes and it was a helluva drive ... I worked on a commercial shot in the 80s (JWT of Paris produced, Master Card commercial) that recreated the crop duster scene from NXNW just outside of Amarillo; it was directed by Andrei Konchalovsky and shot by Chris Menges. They recreated it shot by shot. During the takes of the airplane buzzing the ground it flew so low that some of the foil on the reflectors shook free. One of the grips found a tarantula and was playing with it. I asked why he could handle it and he replied that the temperature was so cold it barely crawled on his arm ..

Thanks for posting this. I have hiked the Mohicans forests, eaten at Mystic Pizza and owned an aged Mercedes ("Oh Roger,r not Laura's Mercedes!") straight out of NBYNW, with NBYNW license plates.
But this, this ices that cake.

Damn it! I was just driving past this area not 30 hours ago. Now I've noted it for my next trip up North.

Only two hours drive from Atlanta, the North Georgia mountains are ideal for the adventurous local sports and perhaps not so athletic that may not have time to travel to other destinations.
