Nice Outfit
If I had to listen to singing of this quality this for very long, I would literally get sick. Conan O’Brien and Jim Carrey performing Five For Fighting‘s “Superman (It’s Not Easy)” at Saturday night’s “Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On Television Tour” — Gibson Amphitheater, Los Angeles, 4.24.10.
It’s no more painful than the original, which was so ubiquitous in the three months after 9/11. If I never have to hear that song again, I’d count myself lucky.
They did it again last night, except Conan wore the Superman outfit and Carrey was dressed as Kick-Ass. It was good to see Jimbo (he is RIPPED!) but the song, like most of them, was kinda lame. Conan got upstaged by a Tonight Show writer and his opening act…
Liked Sunday’s show for the most part, but was hoping that Conan–if he’s to suffer the same kind of “intellectual property” embargo that NBC sandbagged Letterman with in 1993–would have featured more farewell performances of time-honored bits/characters like the CLUTCH CARGO routine, the PimpBot, IN THE YEAR 2000, etc.
But the Masturbating Bear (turned into “The Self-Pleasuring Panda”) made an appearance–plus a brief Triumph The Insult Comic Dog video.
I’ve always liked Conan fine, but what’s this thing where he always has to be doing some music?
I think it’s supposed to be a joke, in that he doesn’t look like a guy who can rock, so a tall, genteel redheaded guy breaking out an axe or breaking into song is “funny.” But I think Conan’s really into it, like he thinks it’s actually good. Fallon kinda does this too. Both should ease up on the music stuff… it always seems like the vaudeville days where the comedy guys had to break into some kind of music number with Margaret Dumont or something.
