Sucker Punch

As seen at Comic-Con and reported by The Pursuitist, the HD trailer for Zack Snyder‘s Sucker Punch, a fanboy-friendly action fantasy about “a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality,” blah blah.

The costars are Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, Carla Gugino, Jon Hamm, Scott Glenn and Oscar Isaac.

  1. Now that I think about it, the Sucker Punch trailer’s like a summary of every Final Fantasy cut-scene ever made.

  2. How many times can Hollywood pump out the exact same “cool” anime-inspired shots and tone before the moviegoing public gets tired of it?

Oh wait … Kick-Ass already bombed at the box office. Maybe they’re already tired of it?

  3. Deez, I thought you didn’t play RPGs.

I can’t watch this trailer until I know how much crappy Snyder slow-motion is used. 78% More?

  4. That’s a whole lot of hotness in one movie. Damn. I mean, the movie looks dorky as a motherfucker, and Snyder has next to no visual style whatsoever, but NO WAY I’m missing out on that lineup. Mmm.

So I assume this is in the yearly WB March/early April geek slot?

  5. What the fuck is that about?

Even with a hot lineup, that’s not enough to entice the male audience in the PornHub era. DeeZee is right in the sense that it looks like a cut-scene from a video game.

  6. Y’all are crazy. That looks like the bee’s knees. It’s a sizzle reel, for God’s sake. Some of us, sometimes, enjoy the throw things at the wall and see what sticks approach. My username comes from the greatest example of that philosophy I’ve seen in the fantasy genre so far. How is this any different than The Expendables, where the screen is just overloaded with “things” you’d want to see from the genre that film is working in?

If this makes me an Eloi, then I wear it proudly. I like being able to come here and CHUD and feel equally comfortable talking about the films being discussed. It makes me happy.

  7. When I first saw the promo materials for this a couple weeks ago, my first thought was, “Hey! It’s Suicide Girls: The Movie.”

After seeing the teaser, my *second* thought is, why would I watch a videogame when I can play one?

  8. Both 300 and Watchmen were better trailers than movies. If that’s the case with Sucker Punch, God help us all because that trailer was awful.

At some point, you’d like to see the fanbase for this kind of stuff grow up and at least deal with human problems. You can do that in science fiction – love or hate Inception, it asks big questions and isn’t simultaneously obsessed and scared shitless of sex in the way that Snyder’s films are.

  9. Looks great to me. I always get excited about the geek properties beforehand, when I see the trailers and promotional stuff.

The end result usually lets me down, but that doesn’t stop me from getting a nerd-boner at the sight of a giant samurai, an art-deco looking rocket and a fire-breathing dragon.

  10. Showgirls meets Foxes meets Kill Bill = painful lack of originality. But I’ll watch anything with Abbie Cornish, though I can’t spot her in the trailer.

  11. Jack: “How is this any different than The Expendables,”

Expendables has a story, big-name actors, and no bad CG[that I know of]?

bluetide: I actually liked 300 and Watchmen, in spite of the latter film fucking up the ending. But Sucker Punch just looks like a CG remake of Pistol Opera.

  12. And you look like a CG remake of an actual human being. Kinda similar, but not enough to fool the real human eye.

  13. Stalking you would be pointless, since you never leave your mother’s basement.

Now shut the fuck up and seek professional help.

  14. I think this looks awesome cant wait to watch it , as for the tits about being real blah blah , that why i watch a movie I want to be in a different world while i watch it , i want something that different from reality I mean star wars was epic but i still not seen a ewok that doesnt means its shit .
