Acorn and Tree

The director of this Ben Quayle political spot is an amateur. It’s pathetic when Quayle walks off-screen toward the camera and to the left as he mutters, “And I approved this message.” The work of a rank amateur. A political candidate who can’t find better people to shoot his political spots isn’t that bright, trust me. I’m sure Quayle didn’t intend to indict himself with this shortcoming, but he has.

Let me guess. The son of Dan?

Must be. Love the fact that he condemns Obama for being the worst President in history when the man has only been in office eighteen months, and inherited two wars and the worst recession in U.S. history from a man named George W. Bush.

Are these people complete fools and so utterly cynical that they can only come up with a populist mantra like “kick some ass” in Washington.

Ugh, if this is Dan Quayle’s son, let’s at least hope he can spell “potato”.

Incredible. There is no better stage in politics than the fools who get elected congress in the good ol’ U.S. of A.

  2. How awkward is this guy, huh? I didn’t really see any problem with the direction, so much. Nothing spectacular, either. Call me an amateur, but the blame seems to fall square on the shoulders of Quayle himself.

  3. What are you talking about? There’s nothing the director can do about the material and the candidate. If anything, it shows creativity, walking to the camera and off focus. It gives a certain sense of purpose, as if he’s off to do serious work. The really weird thing -and that IS a directing gaffe- is when he stands up without showing the chair. It looks like he’s bobbing his head for no reason. Other than that, nicely shot.

  4. “Barack Obama is the worst president in history. There are drug cartels in Mexico. Arizona’s pretty cool. I saw Inception last weekend. My daughter’s room is pink. Taxes.”

    Seriously, who wrote this thing?

  5. He seems to be doing a Don Draper imitation. At least Jon Hamm can actually, um, act.

The line about Obama is designed to get him press — it’ll be all over the MSNBC shows, he’ll be KO’s “worst person”, and so in that aspect he will have succeeded.

  6. Tim James wannabe, but he doesn’t have the charisma. Truly pathetic. Oh and by the way his inspiration lost handily.

  7. I’m pretty moderate leaning right in many areas, but I can’t abide the GOP as long as every single member is the villain in a Swayze movie.

  8. Can we all just ignore this little shit and get on with the business of grown ups keeping on keeping on?. “My daddy says I can be president”. Good for you. Hey, it worked for one degenerate retard, why not this little scrote?

And what is this ‘TheDirty.com”? Have you ever seen a more ghoulish collection of mutton dressed as lamb in your life? Gotta love a site that has to urge it’s commentators not to post racist captions of the day.

  9. Extended version of Avatar allegedly has different content, while Black Swan is R, Easy A is PG-13, and Piranha 3D is R.

Um, why would I pay 5x more than a ticket for something still in theaters?

Isn’t being an internet meme and then doing a Tyler Perry movie a bit of a downgrade?

  10. Hey, everybody – DZ spam blends in with the other spam. Any day now he’s gonna slip an ad for sneakers in the middle of his usual crap and then his fiendish plan will really begin to take hold!

  11. If anyone knows about bad politicians, it would be the son of the worst Vice President of all time… and yes, that includes Spiro T. Agnew.

But seriously, this asshat will sadly win his race, because the only thing that matters to voters in modern politics is either name recognition. Even if your namesake was the worst damned person to ever be a heartbeat from the Presidency.

  12. Am I wrong, or does anyone else feel a subtle, thin layer of racism when people call Obama the worst President of all time. It’s such a harsh thing to say, particularly after only 18 months in office. It’s like jumping to a huge conclusion because Obama is “black.” I don’t know, I’m a former conservative who hates political correctness, but there seems something insidiously racist in this ad. Am I wrong? Or does anyone agree?

  13. Thought about this earlier today after watching this and reading Quayle Jr’s Wiki…

What DID ever become of Dan Quayle? In my formative high school and college years, that guy was THE punchline of the era, a name that was to comics and talk show monologues what Palin is now, or W., far beyond the tame jabs they throw at Biden. The potatoe bit, Murphy Brown, all those Pat Sajak jokes…

But when’s the last time anyone’s even HEARD the name Dan Quayle? Did he go into retirement or pull a JD Salinger? It’s been so long, I’d bet like 0% of any 15, 20-year-old kids would ever have heard the name ONCE in their lifetime. Seems odd that talk radio or Fox never picked him up in any form, that you never see him making the debate-show rounds.

Total disappearing act. Shit, until this morning I don’t think I’ve even THOUGHT of the guy in at least 10 years.

  14. I know what your mean Hickenlooper

Just rode home, on the radio they were interviewing Huckabee, who was promoting his new Fox show. He was there to take (presumably) reasonable questions about the economy, etc…

First caller from Kentucky started in immediately about how Obama’s REAL name is Barry Soetoro, and she said Google it!!!

Now don’t tell me there isn’t an undercurrent of rascism behnd this shit. From the “birthers” to the teabaggers…it’s there. And I’m not particularly happy with his performance so far – I’m just glad someone who sorta thinks is on the job

  15. Hickenlooper,

Ugh..,You feel the way you do about Obama in the ad, due to media influence, Hollywood colleagues, and leftest professors of your alma mater.

You probably don’t like to dwell on the recent murders of nine white men by a black man much like the rest of the media as well. That story hardly received any attention. Its history now.

  16. and by the way “that story hardly received any attention”…

are you high? It was front-page news for a week. The usual news cycle.

    I’m done

  17. Anyone who believes in the “birther” bullshit is a complete fool. It’s nice that they let you know that you should never listen to anything else that comes out of their mouth by loudly announcing that they are a birther, though.

  18. The Omar Thornton story got big media attention where I live. It was headline news for days. Unfortunately for the “lamestream media”, the guy killed himself. Not much you can cover about the story after that except the “why”. It certainly got more attention than Jim David Adkisson’s crime:

“This was a symbolic killing,” Adkisson wrote. “Who I wanted to kill was every Democrat in the Senate and House, the 100 people in Bernard Goldberg’s book. I’d like to kill everyone in the mainstream media. But I knew these people were inaccessible to me.

Anyway, I find it amusing that this clown gets his information from the same website that publishes things like this:

  20. Call me a little slow, but all this time I thought “Kenyan Born US President” had chosen his user name ironically….as a dry comment about the absurdity of birther views. It’s just hitting me now that he’s completely in earnest. It is my privelege and honor to announce that Hollywood Elsewhere will not tolerate the presence of birther commenters. Say goodbye to this racist ayehole, now and forever.

  22. I voted for McCain in 2008 because I believed that Obama lacked experience and that the media was forcing him on America. When Obama won, I shrugged and said, “OK, let’s see what happens.” It’s unfortunate that others stomped their feet and acted like babies, mainly because their stupidity has tainted people like me by association. One of the things Rush Limbaugh would say when liberals were bitching and moaning about how things were was that he wasn’t going to participate in negativity. Two years later, and I believe he and others of his political persuasion and access to a microphone are; I’ve lost a lot of respect for them because of it.

To me, the biggest misfortune of the whole thing is that I just don’t care as much as I used to. It’s too taxing, day in and day out, to have to a) discuss your opinions with those who not only disagree with you, but think you’re evil because you hold them, and b) be lumped in with some real idiots just because we agree at an endpoint, but the roads we took to get there are way, way different.

  24. I voted for Obama and would be considered by most to be a died in the wool liberal, but I agree with everything you just said, JChasse. It’s a shame that the idiots and the assholes on both sides are the ones that get to define the debate, especially in our ever shortening news cycle and attention span.

  26. “I am utterly astounded at the lengths those on the right will go to, to go after Obama on anything and everything.”

You should have been around during JFK’s presidency when the right accused him of everything but having a tiny dick. Then there were the Impeach Earl Warren days. None of this is new.

Meanwhile, Ben Q’s story would make a good satirical film: Dumb and Dumber meets The Omen.

  28. I don’t think the production values of the ad are bad at all. The lighting is quite nice, and the walking off thing is at least novel.

The thing that makes it suck dog nuts is, (duh), the subject. He’s got the charisma of a stoned census taker. It’s not director’s fault this guy is doof.

And I think you’re on the wrong trail with the racism thing, Hickenlooper. At least as far as this ad is concerned. This is 2010. We are in the age were anything less than over-wrought hyperbole is unthinkable.

Get used to it. From now on, EVERY president will be called “the WORST president in history” by the other party.

  30. I agree with Welles. The ad is amateurish and ridiculous. As much for the content as for the stupid dip toward the camera and walking out of sight. He’s trying to appear dismissive and aloof but he just comes as what he is: uneducated and without a clue.

Good on Welles for banning KenyanBornUSPresident as well. What a douche.
