Fire in the Mind

Scott Brown‘s Wired piece about The Social Network backstory is catchy and well-written, etc., but the real grabber is the art — i.e., the illustrations by Martin Ansin. (Thanks to Awards Daily‘s Sasha Stone for the tip.)

I was chuckling yesterday about that “Mark Zuckerberg: Creator of Facebook” comic book, but if the illustrations in this Bluewater Productions comic are as good as Ansin’s, (and if the writing was as punchy as it should be), I think I’d buy it.

  2. From the drawings, I see facebook was created by a bunch of guys with jew fros in hoodies.

    The illustration style is too much on the superhero side of the spectrum, good ol black ink work would have suited this better.

    Can you imagine if The Social Network had lightsabers?, HE coverage would triple, just a thought.

  4. I’m sorry, but only someone who has never bothered actually reading a comic book could think this is good artwork. It’s like a person who hates rock music bobbing their head to a Justin Bieber song and saying “see, now if rock music was this good more often, I might actually listen to it.”

  5. heh. I would feel just as awkward as Wells if I were to walk into a comic book store. Have, in fact. I consider myself something of a nerd, but it’s…toxic in its level of dorkiness. I went in there to find Ghost World a year ago, and man, I felt like this weird superhero shit might be contagious somehow. That was when I really knew I couldn’t stand superheroes anymore. Not the costumes, not the nicknames, not the absurdly convoluted mythology, not the lingo. And I saw those Hulk and Captain America action figures, as if for the first time. This, I thought. This is crap, and I’m done with it.

  6. The third image makes me want to go back in time to 1992 and fill out an application to Harvard. Not that I’d have gotten into those parties, but a time traveler can dream!
