Warner Bros. will stage a Boston premiere of Ben Affleck's The Town at Fenway Park on 8 pm on Tuesday, 9.14. A 50-foot-tall screen out in center field, one presumes, plus digital projection and sound that can be heard as far as Revere. Affleck and costars Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, Rebecca Hall, Blake Lively and Chris Cooper will walk out on the diamond and take bows like the Beatles at Shea Stadium.

Yeah, really. I'll be accused of beating the same old drum, but what must it be like to be feted like this? At 8pm on 9.14 I'll probably be on my way home from work, and will pick up a 12-pack of Coors at 7-11 then hit the Boston Market on Riverside for a quarter-dark meal, which I'll eat on the edge of my dusty sofa while watching the finale of Big Brother.

Pete Postlethwaite's accent is sure to be ridiculous.

I'm really looking forward to this one, but I don't know what Hollywood sees in Rebecca Hall. She's as bland as can be. Seems odd that she's getting all these high profile roles these days.

Blake Lively, meanwhile, is hot as toast. Already I'm struggling to see why Affleck's character would pick Hall over Lively.

Hall was pretty damn hot and charming in Vicky Christy Barcelona and Frost/Nixon. I get it... Just sometimes she reminds me of broccoli.

And what's this deal with Boston where everyone from there is SO into it, that when their boys come home, they're all FUCK YEAH and they treat Affleck, Damon, the Wahlbergs, etc, like KINGS?

In Ohio and PA, when prominent people leave the city (see LeBron, James) for a fucking weekend in Vegas, it's considered some sell out of epic proportions, or if it's some showbiz type who hit the big time in LA/NYC, they get BOOED AND MOCKED when they come back to town.

It's like on AMERICAN IDOL when some douche crooner goes back to his Podunk burg and they hold a fucking PARADE for the guy. If some dude from Pittsburgh went on American Idol and came back to town, he'd be laughed out of the fucking fairgrounds and get bottles chucked at his head. Only athletes get the kingly welcome.... Can't see THE PGH putting on a ROYAL WELCOME for Christina Aguilera or even favorite son Michael Keaton.

Eloi, that's why Ben was nailing Lively on the set. I made that joke about Fenway being overused (BAD ACCENTS, FENWAY PAHK) in the trailer before, but this is just rIdiculous...too much. Mystic River really started pushing it too far.

Rebecca Hall killed in Please Give. I'm trying to think of a performance in isolation that might justify Eloi's assessment, but I can't.

Also I love Renner but I wish his role were played by a change-of-pace Damon. THAT would put asses in the seats.

Lex, are you a PA native? I think of the Philly area as 'home' and miss it quite often.

Also, I wonder if this overindulgence is, in some way, rooted in the overall Catholic nature of Boston. Go big or stay home. Yeah, that's pretty damn abstract but it makes sense in my head.

I'm trying to imagine Philly going out of it's way to suck Mi Night's dick for any new film of his. The idea of a self indulgent premiere for "The Happening" at Citizens Bank Park....actually, I wish that would have happened. That would have been one hell of an entertaining night.

Mr Hooper Author Profile Page says ...

One of the reasons (I would think) that Affleck et al. get feted like this, welcomed like heroes etc, is that he (and Damon and Wahlberg) is unabashedly proud to be from there, he talks the place up in interviews, he goes back there, he makes movies there that are actually set there. That carries a lot of weight with the common person, that connection to roots and history and remembering where you come from. If Christina Aguilera made an album that was an ode to Pittsburgh or wherever she's from she'd get a similar treatment (although I suspect she's already treated pretty well when she comes to town).

Center field? It's Fenway-- even money says they roll a screen down the Monster.

Which, come to think of it, would be really effing cool.

I think Mr Hooper nails it-- it's a pride thing. Folks escape a lot of cities, but nobody quite leaves Boston (or NYC, or LA, or Chicago...)-- that's where folks *go to escape*, after all.

I've lived in Washington DC for as long as I ever lived in Chicago, but lord knows, NOBODY is from around here. But folks "get" being from Chicago.

My daughter loved "Gone, Baby, Gone" because of the accents (particularly Ryan's) and was dissappointed hearing little of them in the trailer. (We're going opening weekend anyway. I did enjoy the book.)

"What's the over/under on bad Boston accents in this thing?"

I'm from the Boston area, but unfortunately my ear for accents sucks. When I saw CATCH ME IF YOU CAN, I was appalled by what I thought was Tom Hanks' lousy Boston accent - turns out it was actually a good Chicago accent. So the accents in THE TOWN seemed ok to me...

However, I can report that the trailer had my other friends from Boston in hysterics, and it was because of the accents.
