Rally After All
Everything has changed, Jon Stewart Rally in D.C.-wise. I’m busing down on late Friday afternoon, staying in a rented room near Dupont Circle, attending the rally with purchased VIP tickets (the Comedy Central p.r. person, Renata Luczak, totally blew me off because I applied too late for press credentials), covering the rally, and staying on Saturday night and running around and whatnot. I’m open to schmooze and libations (i.e., the Tabard Inn on Friday evening?) with any HE readers who’ll be in the vicinity.
I’m taking a Huffington Post bus on Sat so won’t be there on Friday to schmooze, but I hope to see you there at the rally. I tried, by the way, to get a press pass since I work for The Real Deal but was denied. And I did applied in time.
I’ll be there, but I’m staying with a friend who goes to George Washington University, and we’re going out on Friday night. But if I catch you at or after the rally, it’d be awesome to talk with you for a bit.
And what makes you people different than the clowns at the Beck rally?
It’s sad that I blew off the idea of going to the rallies when they were first announced… but now want to go, if only to share a drink with Wells Friday night. Is that wrong?

i wish i could make it from sf for this, but if you’re looking for a place for drinks, the place i would hit up is the passenger in chinatown. owned by two of dc’s best mixologists, opened last year, nice, awesome dive feel when you walk in, but great classic cocktails at the bar, nice classic rock ambiance, and i think they’re doing something wacky for halloween
Hope that huge cloud of smug doesn’t drift too far west this weekend. I gotta fly.

The people at the Stewart rally get the fact that it is a joke.

The difference is that this a non-partisan event that is here to promote understanding and logical reasoning between conservatives and liberals. Stewart and Colbert want to bring rational discourse and compromise to the political arena. Regardless of what Beck says, his rally was about Christian conservatism and bringing those values back to politics.
So excited for this. I’m afraid that unless Stewart keeps tight control of it, though, it will devolve into a rah!rah! go Democrats! rally. Which is not what it should be. What it should be about is stating one thing very clearly: if America is to survive politically, we must restore rational dialogue to a central place in our political landscape. Can’t afford to go to even a local rally in Seattle, and wouldn’t anyway because I’m not a “large crowd” person, but I love the concept.

That’s correct. What it should be, I feel, is a “rah! rah! Let’s get serious about rounding up Tea Party-ers and putting them into green re-education camps!”
If you’re drinking with Wells, know that you’re the one going to be buying.
