Jeff Bridges: The Dude Abides, a PBS/American Masters documentary airing on 1.12.11, is apparently a standard ass-kiss thing. Surely a wonderful talent and great fellow! Didn’t Bridges get enough adoration last year during the Crazy Heart parade?
I initially thought the focus of this 90-minute doc might be about Bridges and the Coen brothers and The Big Lebowski . That I’d love to see. They could call it “Jeff Bridges: Don’t Pee On My Rug.”
It ought to be about all the Bridges. Lloyd had quite a life.
Bridges deserves all the kudos he receives. Dude’s been working hard and doing good work for 40 years, making all who worked with him look good at every turn.
If anything, I’d say he’s been underappreciated until just recently. The guy had four Oscar noms before Crazy Heart but when you consider all he’s done, I’d argue he should have twice that easy. Correct me if I’m wrong but he WASN’T nominated for Baker Boys or Fearless or Fisher King (although his costars in each were).
The guy’s been married to the same woman for 33 years. He’s founded and supported various END HUNGER charities since the early 80′s.
Pauline Kael wrote that he “…may be the most natural and least self-conscious screen actor that has ever lived.” Janet Maslin called him “…the most underappreciated great actor of his generation.”
Bridges is one of the good guys:)
Jeff, I’m surprised at your anti-Jeff rants these days. Just got done seeing True Grit and honestly, that’s the best acting I’ve seen all year.
Ya, True Grit isn’t reinventing the wheel, but it’s beautifully shot, has great performances and is good entertainment.
Lay off Bridges for being awesome.

I would greatly enjoy an hour long special about BEAU Bridges. I never had THAT much in the way of direct sibling rivalry, but if there was ever a night in my late teens, early twenties where I was stuck unloading trucks or writing essay papers by myself while a younger brother or younger cousin had a hot date or a big football game where he scored a touchdown and was treated like a HERO or some shit, I was ready to slit my fucking wrists.
Can’t even IMAGINE what it’s like for Beau Bridges, yes solid and respected in his own right but still, to hear DAY IN AND DAY OUT what an UNSUNG NATIONAL TREASURE his better-looking, wealthier, cooler, more famous LEADING MAN younger bro is.
