“Ghost”

Comparing yesterday morning’s jaunty, light-hearted who-is-Nikki Finke? piece on the Today show (scares people! blunt-spoken! extremely camera-averse!) to, say, Tad Friend‘s 10.12.09 New Yorker profile wouldn’t be fair, I suppose. But they couldn’t have blanded and dumbed it down much more than they did.

I’ve said before that I might understand Finke’s motive for not wanting to have current photos of her getting out. Some of us are more accepting of the process of inevitable biological diminishment than others, and some less so. But nobody is over-the-moon about it, and I’m guessing that Finke, like yours truly, has simply decided that visual capturings of same will never lighten anyone’s load, and that it’s probably better to leave well enough alone and get back to work with a cup of hot tea.

  1. Amazing that nobody can get a picture of Finke, this being the 21st century and all. You would think somebody would have scooped this by now.

    Although I found Avon a lot more sympathetic. I’d say she has morals/ethics more along the lines of Stringer Bell.

  6. Nikki just needs to do things Michael Jackson-style — go out in public wearing a mask over her face. That won’t draw any attention in L.A.

  7. Is there really a Nikki Finke any more? Couldn’t it really be a bunch of former agent interns and studio underlings who have connections? It’s all phone calls isn’t it? How much actually happens face-to-face anymore?

    I think it’s just a bunch of Facebookers who know the workings of the net and Hollywood and just have to drop her name to get an answer to their questions.

    She could have past away 5 years ago when the site started and it just got out of hand.

    It’s “S1m0ne” and we’re all drinking the Koolaid and loving it.

  10. I wonder if her leaking the entire Academy Awards rundown will finally bring her down a peg, not that the average view reads Deadline, but it seems the Oscar folks are mighty pissed at her. Ad revenue in jeopardy perhaps?
