I, too, found MOON to be way overrated, and about 45 minutes too long. The idea it was based on would work as a 45-minute movie. There just wasn’t enough story to support 90 minutes, especially after the twist was revealed. Even the build-up to the twist took too long.
I’m intrigued by SOURCE, but it’s not worth a trip to the theatre.
I greatly enjoyed Moon for what it was, particularly as a first feature. I also thought Sam Rockwell gave his typically solid performance.
But, to back up some of the earlier comments, I thought they really telegraphed the twist. Maybe because I grew up with Twilight Zone, etc., I thought it became fairly apparent early on. And, once revealed, they didn’t do much with it.
All of which is to say that I think Duncan Jones has a bright future. I wouldn’t pin it all on Moon, though.
Like others here I really enjoyed Moon. Rockwell’s performance, the old school special effects, everything just worked. Looking forward to Source Code.

The s.f. ceiling of “scope” here was always going to be much more in the Pi/Cube neighborhood than that of 2001/Alien. By the same token, I’m not sure what the budget was on this, but a direct comparison (at least fx-wise) to Inception is already way out of bounds…$200 million buys you a whole lotta “world-density.” I think this could have the feel of a ’90s-era Proyas flick, which would be just A-okay by me.
(Incidentally, I just IMDb’d him and it appears Alex is possibly adapting John Milton’s Paradise Lost for the big screen? Talk about a perfect pairing…that could be a huge comeback project for him — not to mention Larry Kasdan!)
