History
Last night’s passage of New York State’s gay-marriage law was cause for celebration among decent people everywhere. I wish I could have taken part in the Manhattan celebrations outside the Stonewall near Sheridan Square, or on the 8th Avenue strip from 14th Street to 23rd Street. I wasn’t in Berlin either when the wall came down.
Senator Mark J. Grisanti, a Republican from Buffalo, was the 33rd vote for the bill. “I apologize for those who feel offended,” he said. “I cannot deny a person, a human being, a taxpayer, a worker, the people of my district and across this state, the State of New York, and those people who make this the great state that it is the same rights that I have with my wife.”
It goes without saying that President Obama is too scared of hee-haw swing voters to have supported it, but hats off to Governor Andrew Cuomo.
“Ever since I had a memory about what my mother taught me, and my grandparents taught me, I believed that discriminating against people was wrong,” Obama said in New York two nights ago. “And I believed that discrimination because of somebody’s sexual orientation or gender identity ran counter to who we are as a people. It’s a violation of the basic tenets on which this nation was founded. I believe that gay couples deserve the same human rights as every other couple in this country.”
Of course, “lawmakers” had to pass it because if the voters had a say, it would’ve failed. Last night was a great win for cocksuckers everywhere.
Wells to Palmer: I think I’ve had about enough of you. How was last night’s legislation a win for straight women? I’m not following. In any case, I’m done with you. Everyone is. You’re toast.
Jeff, maybe the above Homophobe hater needs a ban? Computer says “Yes”.
Given some of his comments, I would almost guarantee Obama makes marriage equality a major second term issue. However this is a huge hot button issue he cannot fight facing reelection with an economy in the crapper.
I’m not even going to address the revolting nonsense in Mr.Palmer’s comment.
This is a terrific and defining moment in America, because it reaffirms the core value upon which America was founded: “All men are created equal.” This cannot be fulfilled when some people are not allowed the same rights and protections under the law. Period.
And to all of those people who reject gay marriage based on the idea that marriage is defined by God as a union between a man and a woman only: We have a separation of church and state here for a reason. Keep your religious views out of the lives of people who do not want it.
And to those who feel that homosexuality is a choice rather than something with which they are born: Being a Christian or a Jew is a choice, too. Should we cut off your government funds and your tax breaks as well?
A-men!
Mr. Palmer says …
Of course, “lawmakers” had to pass it because if the voters had a say, it would’ve failed. Last night was a great win for niggers everywhere.

George Prager,
Your uncomfortable joke puts Mr. Palmer in his place. Bravo!
Yes, it’d be nice if Obama came out in full support; but would gay activists, liberals etc prefer that he do so and LOSE, sticking them with 4-8 years of Republican nominees to the federal/supreme courts and who knows what else? Or that he sits it out until Term 2 so they can win the playoffs AND the series?
This is the downside of having an infusion of “new excited blood” into a movement: you ALSO get an infusion of self-wounding short-sighted idealism (a lesson the Republicans are about to learn when the Teabaggers start splitting votes in the primaries.)
Now if we all had to make an assumption, based on the hate and bigotry in his post, would you guess that Mr. Palmer was a Republican or a Democrat?
Always kinda funny when a semi-regular poster outs themselves as a massive bigot. Kinda like when DulouzGray announced himself as an absolute cunt. Now Mr. Palmer follows suit!
“Of course, “lawmakers” had to pass it because if the voters had a say, it would’ve failed. Last night was a great win for cocksuckers everywhere.”
I guess you spend countless evenings pushing your wife away from your lap saying, “Now now, none of THAT now…”.
In other words, GOD BLESS THE COCKSUCKERS.
Mr. Palmer’s a sexist as well as a homophobe because he left out the muffdivers.
It’s about fucking time, NY. Iowa beat you to it.
Wife? I’d say Mr. Palmer lives up to his name and enjoys a close, intimate relationship with his hand.
And Jeff must not have seen it, because if Iive ever seen a post calling for a ban, that’s the one.
Is that Tea Party sign authentic, or is it some multi-layered meta joke I’m not seeing.
(assuming it’s real for a moment)
As somebody who didn’t have a problem with, and often defended, the original intent of most of the “tea party” movement, (no, not hatred of a black President, no matter what Keith told you), it’s stuff like that that causes me to throw up my hands and walk away.
Not that they aren’t entitled to their opinions. Many people have problems with gay marriage, and though I disagree with them, I (sometimes) respect their opinions. (religious convictions and so-forth..)
But the Tea Party? So, the rabble at Boston Harbor who chucked crates of taxed tea into the water did so, not because of the Tea Act per se, but out of their anger at the King for not allowing Ye Gaye Colonists to join in holy wedlock?
I see.
And quit giving Palmer the attention he so obviously craves.
Oh please. Mr. Palmer’s joke was harmless and funny. Most of you people say a lot worse when Jeff writes about a female blogger/writer.
I don’t see the need for such a celebration though. It’s not like those people are going to run off and get married. This is the biggest political diversion in the country. There are far more pressing issues but the media and government want you to focus on this.
Oh, and Jeffrey. You made a typo there. You accidentally labelled Sen. Grisanti a “Republican”. He’s obviously not one of those, right? You MUST have meant Democrat. Otherwise our pigeon-holing heads will explode.
I’m a proud cocksucker. I can’t wait for the day I become some man’s wife.
Rashad, FYI, “Mr Palmer” is the same doofus who’s been banned like a dozen times by Wells (most recent previous incarnation: Jim Peacock or Hancock or something)… He’s trolls almost every thread saying the most blunt and unpleasant dig at Jeff or the topic, but the funny thing is, NO ONE ever notices or cares, least of all Jeff.
I guess he finally got his validation– here in one glorious thread, like TEN PEOPLE are NOTICING HIM! He’s probably roosting in his underwear at the computer desk.
I need a LexG insta-review….
“Super 8″.
Okay go!
” I wasn’t in Berlin either when the wall came down.”
And D.Z. didn’t have a TypePad account when THE ROCKETEER finished at #4 in its opening weekend at the box office.
Bob: “Yes, it’d be nice if Obama came out in full support; but would gay activists, liberals etc prefer that he do so and LOSE, sticking them with 4-8 years of Republican nominees to the federal/supreme courts and who knows what else?”
At his current rate of overall complicity, he could lose, anyway.
Prager: I liked The Rocketeer, and am still kinda down it didn’t do better, but did anyone really expect it to be huge? I mean, it was based off a no-name comic and had no stars.
Half of Lex’s Immediate Family Says:
“This is gonna lead to Sodom and Gomorrah!”
“The Rocketeer” was gayer than the people in the above photos.
Actionlover,
How could The Rocketeer possibly be considered gay when it featured pre-Skeletor Connelly in all her voluptuous glory?
….except for pre-Skeletor Connelly.
“I wasn’t in Berlin either when the wall came down.”
HAHAH! Is that a joke? Cause you sure as shit can’t be serious about equating the 2.
IMO this bill passing is roughly # 564023 on the list of important things that needed to be done in this country.
IMO this bill passing is roughly # 564023 on the list of important things that needed to be done in this country.
That’s because this doesn’t affect you.
Meanwhile, the economy is even farther down the toilet. Way to go, NY. Stay classy.
“Or that he sits it out until Term 2 so they can win the playoffs AND the series?”
Please clip and save this fantasy for a good laugh… It’s a rerun of the “liberal Bill Clinton” we were supposed to get in his second term.
Just read through some of these posts. Christ, Don Murphy calling anybody on ANYTHING is hysterical.
Still don’t think Jeff is giving the Republicans in the New York State Senate enough props for this – you do realize they control that house, right? They are the ones who decided to bring the matter to the floor for a vote. And major, MAJOR thanks should be given to Bloomberg, who reportedly flew to Albany and told them point-blank either vote yes or never see another dime in future campaign funds from him.
But my favorite is Roy McDonald the 64 year old grandfather who responded to god knows how much pressure and Bible-thumping from other Republicans like this:
“”You get to the point where you evolve in your life where everything isn’t black and white, good and bad, and you try to do the right thing. You might not like that. You might be very cynical about that.
Well, fuck it, I don’t care what you think. I’m trying to do the right thing.”
It’s the “right thing” for some. Not everyone. Opinions are not facts.
Actually, in this society, this can easily be boiled down to a fact: minus STRICTLY RELIGIOUS rationales, the anti-gay bigots are attempting to impose their beliefs on other citizens.
Not a single major medical, psychiatric or legal group has come out, so to speak, against it. Minus that, there doesn’t seem to be any logical basis to limit one minority’s rights in favor of another.
I guess in some ways, this issue is a testament to the progress this country has witnessed in the last century or so. Because those who are against it are contorting themselves into all kinds of knots attempting to both justify their actions while at the same trying to avoid the label of “bigot” that history has repeatedly given to such actions.
But that ship sailed when they couldn’t be satisfied with simply belonging to a church or religious order that agreed with their moral views. Soon as they actively went out to deny others such a fundamental right such as freedom of association each and every one became an intolerant bigot and their heirs will rightfully be as ashamed of it as I am that part of my family were in the Klan some 70 years ago.
“It’s the “right thing” for some. Not everyone. Opinions are not facts.”
This is very true. It’s the right thing for people who believe in freedom and equality, but not the right thing for assholes who want their bigotry enforced by law.
Mr. Palmer=bigot
The Truth=bigot
arispil=bigot
It’s nice when they make it so obvious.
The Truth (sic): “Meanwhile, the economy is even farther down the toilet. Way to go, NY. Stay classy.”
NY has long been a traditional destination for weddings and honeymoons in a HUGE tourism economic engine. NY just expanded its customer base approximately two-fold.
So bigotry outweighs capitalism? Way to go, “Truth”. Stay un-American,
(Jeff, why *not* ban “Truth”, “Jewelz Azner”, “Palmer”, “ActionLover”, and the rest of the Walking Army of the Banned? It’d be a kick just to see the next wave Ker-azy Namez that cropped up….)
“NY just expanded its customer base approximately two-fold.”
That’s just from weddings — what about homosexual couples who actually SETTLE in NY because of this, so that their marriage will be legally recognized by the state?
[Can't wait until conservatives are arguing, against the actual Constitution, that other states shouldn't have to accept married homosexual couples as "married".]
