This is an amazing video. It was posted five or six days ago, and I’ve watched it four times today. It isn’t simulated. A seagull really did scoop up a tiny lightweight video camera and fly away with it. It happened in Cannes. (Initially posted by Awards Daily‘s Ryan Adams on 6.27.)
OK, how did they get the camera back?
I particularly like how the seagull pulled focus and adjusted the white balance.
There’s a comment in here somewhere about European and African swallows and gripping coconuts by the husk.
This is much better made than the Musketeers trailer that dropped this week.
I can see Michael Bay optioning this as his kick ass action follow-up to Transformers. Seagulls attack world wide and steal from people thus beginning an epic battle between seagulls and humans. Writes itself.
Seagulls have webbed feet. Not real big on grabbing things in them and permitting such clear pictures. I’m thinking, therefore, that a) this is not a seagull, or b) this is a hoax. I’d be interested in knowing how you know for a fact this happened. I saw this a few days ago and couldn’t quite believe it, but this is the first mention of it I’ve seen since.
Watching it again, though, I see now it has the thing in its beak, so maybe so. My bad.
The camera owner’s “Hey! Hey!! Whuhhh!!” seems a little canned.
While I appreciate the acting audition for the Finding Nemo sequel near the end, I think this kid’s future is behind the camera.
Real or fake, I’m glad this video isn’t being used to sell PepsiMax or some other such bullshit.
