50/50 Needs Love
The New York premiere for 50/50 happened tonight at the Ziegfeld, and the after-party uncorked at the Four Seasons. Great party, superb food, nice hosts…but I was in a funny place in my head for some reason and left after an hour. HE mood pockets just “happen” sometimes, and there’s no stopping them when they decide to creep in and take over. For those who might’ve missed it, here’s my 50/50 review, posted on 9.11.
50/50 stars Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon Levitt at tonight’s post-premiere party at the Four Seasons on East 52nd. Rogen’s movies don’t convey the fact that he’s fairly tall — tall and broad-sbouldered and no beanpole. If I was in a street fight, I could do worse than to have Rogen on my side.

I understand the mood pocket part, like turbulence on an airplane flight. But what’s the HR part about? Hollywood Reporter? Human Resources? HR Giger?

Please do explain how and why 50/50 is “terrible, terrible, terrible” and “one of the worst movies of the year.” This should be good…would love to hear it…”

Joseph Gordon Levitt is quickly becoming one the few actors I will go watch just because he is in the movie. I loved him in Inception, but saw (500) Days of Summer belatedly and was hooked.
And whenever that bike messenger movie comes out next year, I’ll be there for that one, too.
I like Joseph Gordon-Levitt, too, but “Premium Rush” does not look good.
If I was in a street fight, I’d want Jared Leto on my side cause the attackers would go straight to messing up his pretty face. This would give me enough time to make a quick getaway.

I’ve seen 50/50, and it’s one of the highlights of the year so far. It’s honest, emotional, well-written and performed, and I think Levine did a wonderful job both visually and navigating the tricky tone. It’s a lovely movie, and I hope people go see it. I would highly suggest they do.
