Saw that TOWER HEIST trailer before MONEYBALL the other night…did you have any thoughts on that, Jeff? Because I had purposefully ignored it (not being a Brett Ratner fan at all) but in spite of my dislike for BR and the synopsis, thought the trailer was cut pretty well. Odd seeing Eddie Murphy in an obvious Chris Tucker part, and it had some yuk-yuk lowbrow moments, but if they emphasize Alda as Madoff and the robbing of employee pensions angle, the film could actually have real stakes (a huge rarity in this genre) and benefit from some good performances, i.e. might be a sleeper hit. Pairing of Stiller and Leoni though makes the tone suffer in comparison to the inspired madness of FLIRTING WITH DISASTER.
Hey, the M:I-GP poster has sparks. Never seen sparks on a poster before. That indicates action.
I think it’s smart of Tower Heist to take on Puss in Boots in that first weekend of November. Traditionally, the animated movie has owned that weekend and then studios put counter-programming against it, ie thrillers or R-rated comedies, or American Gangster, but I just don’t see people getting amped for PiB. Granted, there’s a drought of family films in October, but with an clear-to-sell concept, a solid cast, decent trailer with a a possibility of “old Eddie Murphy” back in play, it should do well.
CRUISE is THE UNABOMBER.
