…the fuck? Here’s the iTunes download page for Jessica Pare‘s performance, which was seen in last night’s Mad Men 5 premiere episode. “Zou Bisou, Bisou” (which basically means “I’d like to express my feelings for you in an oral fashion”) was recorded in the early ’60s by Sophia Loren, of all people, and then Gillian Hills. The latter track was produced by George Martin.
They call that a “showstopper.”
Gillian Hills.
Largely thanks to Jessica Pare, I found myself watching the Mad Men premiere twice. It took my mind off a water main leak house problem that has forced me to take temporary refuge in the basement of a sister’s house. I note the April 2 review in People calls Pare a terrific addition. Quote: “Flashing an imperfect but gorgeous smile, flirting with Don by singing a French pop song, she seems to have been stolen from a New Wave movie.” No mention of the fact she also does house cleaning in her black underwear.
“‘Zou Bisou, Bisou’ (which more or less means “I’d like to express my feelings for you in an oral fashion”)…”
I’d have been curious to see how that scene played out with Pare performing in English, using Wells’ translation as the starting point. Maybe something like this:
I’d like to express my feelings for you in an oral fashion,
I’d like to express my feelings for you in an oral fashion,
I’d like to express my feelings,
And when I bat my elegantly made-up eyelashes in your direction,
It is a signal,
A signal that I am physically attracted to you, and would like to arrange a session of love-making,
Just the two of us,
You and me, the elegantly made-up eyelashed one who would like to orally express my feelings upon you”
Nah… I prefer the French version. (Though given Pare’s outfit and moves, I don’t think anyone cares about the lyrics, French or otherwise)
Last night’s performance may very well have made Jessica pare a star.
I enjoy women in black lingerie as much as the next guy, but that doesn’t change the fact that this has got to be the most overrated show in the past decade. If not longer.

Michael is incorrect. Each season of Mad Men has been better than every movie released in their respective years.
The intrigue and entertainment value of Mad Men is very similar to the arc of the Star Trek movies. So what season are we in here, “The Final Frontier”? That;s about right.
Season 4 was the best yet, and I enjoyed the premiere last night immensely. It wasn’t a landmark episode or anything, but just a nice reintroduction to the characters.
One cause for concern is that the show is now in a period of time, the Vietnam and Civil Rights era, that has been done to death by movies and TV in recent years. The late fifties/early sixties period doesn’t have stories set in it nearly as frequently and thus felt more interesting, fresh, and even alien to me in Seasons 1-3. Harry Crane last night looked like an extra from Austin Powers and the show’s obvious decision to finally tackle race relations is shrug inducing.
With that said, the show is at its best when the time period is filtered through the character interactions, not when period dominates the storyline.
Fuck this show is awful.
Ok, so because I don’t have total recall when certain movies came out in what year, I had to look up DoctorWho’s statement. And while I freely admit that his side is the more difficult position, just a cursory look of the movies released in 2007 makes his proclamation absurd.
They must have laughed their taills off when they filmed this.
