  1. Well, at least you have an amazing country to explore instead of wasting an hour watching a redundant Aaron Sorkin extravaganza. That’s more than most of us can say at the moment.

  2. Jeff Daniels gives a Chayefsky-funneled-through-Sorkin speech in the opening scene, Emily Mortimer seems to be at least partially playing Christiane Amanpour, Alison Pill must be playing Felicity Huffman in SPORTS NIGHT and Jesse Eisenberg has a voice cameo towards the end.

    This should help.

  3. Jeff, what you are experiencing first hand is one of the reasons why people download from torrents in Europe: the long outdated TV business model where US television shows, be they cable or network, are sold on on a near country by country basis, with wildly varied broadcast dates.

Due to this, any and all access to online availability of said shows are restricted to US based servers.

With hi-def versions of American shows available within two clicks hours after broadcast via the torrents system, the old-world licensing system has, as we say in Ireland, been left in the ha’penny place.

I would gladly pay cash-money to watch hi-def US television on demand day on date.
Here’s my money, please take it.
    But, alas, they won’t.

  4. This is why I don’t understand how people take so many goddamn vacations… Don’t get me wrong, Jeff’s vacation sounds AWESOME and I’ve never ever left the United States except Canada and Tijuana, so it would RULE to go to London or Tokyo like in the Miley Cyrus song or in Enter the Void or something…

But don’t you miss out on all your tv and movies and ballgames? Like what if you have season football tickets, or are really into your team, or you’re a big moviegoer… Like FUCK going to Europe for a month if it means I’m gonna miss opening day of HICK or SAVAGES or PROMETHEUS or whatever. How do you guys travel? Like you’re in some AMERICAN WEREWOLF highlands pub with a backpack and Griffin Dunne for a month, how you gonna go see Battleship at the Dome?

Once every couple years I accrue enough VACAY that I think, hey, I wouldn’t mind hitting the RED LIGHT DISTRICT which is another dream of mine, or going to whatever that country is in HOSTEL II where you can full-on buy a white 18 year old girl for a certain price…. But then I check the Calendar and like some Renny Harlin movie is coming out that week and it’s the duty of every true-blue cineaste to see EVERY SINGLE AMERICAN FILM IN A THEATER, and thus I cancel my plans.

    Just stay home. Good enough.

  5. Actually KitG, if you’d come to Europe you would have seen Prometheus a whole week early. Not that it would have made it any better.

  6. Less than a week ago, you were publishing pictures of the magnificent views outside your hotel. Now you can’t wait to leave Europe because you can’t wait to see a middle-of-the-road Sorkin TV show? Maybe it’s time to sit back and take stock.

  7. I think SlingBox advertises that you can use it to watch anything you can see on your cable box, anywhere in the world. It rebroadcasts it to your iPad / smartphone through WiFi, even in Europe. It won’t work with internet streams, but it should work with actual HBO.

  8. Yes, a Slingbox and a decent network would’ve solved Jeff’s problem much better than a non-working subscription to HBOGo
