Boy, I sure hope I never get in the middle of something like this with all those bullets and explosions and bad guys shooting their way into the White House! Well, at least there’s comfort in the fact that guys like Gerard Butler (as Mike Banning, “a former Special Forces operative and now Secret Service agent”) are always ready to man up and shoot back and protect us from harm. Hey, Mike, over here…Mike! I’m out of ammo! Toss me a clip.

      I was going to post something along those lines this morning, but you really summed it up quite well.

      Admittedly, he does pretty good voice work (just watched Watchmen: TUC last night, and was pleasantly surprised when I found he provided the audio of the Sea Captain) — but that is literally all I am willing to give him.

      Bust.

      He’s not a bad actor, per se. I think he just makes bad choices for roles. The guy was a lawyer before, right? Maybe he’s just pragmatic and focuses too much on what he believe will make money, rather than elevate his craft. He’s chasing the wrong horse.

        Great point. His career choices, especially comedies, are baffling. I assume he’s Hollywood’s low-budget Russell Crowe.

    Fuqua > Emmerich. Don’t even care if this doesn’t have a script. Also Olympus Has Fallen is an awesomely cheesy Burt Lancaster-esque title. “White House Down” sucks.

    I think Butler is a one day fly. After all 300 was great, but not thanks to him. But thanks to a different kind of style on the big screen.
