Disqus Fix

There have been complaints that the default Disqus comment settings offer the “best” comments first and so they’re posted out of natural sequence. The apparent solve is to hit the discussion tab and click on “newest” (as opposed to “best” or “oldest”). I’m not happy with the out-of-sequence placement at all so maybe this’ll help.

It would be helpful to have this permanently set to oldest. Otherwise, unless everyone uses the “reply” feature (which they don’t) you have no idea which comment is in references to which.

As long as you are logged into your Disqus and you already have it set to oldest, it won’t change.

I just tested this out a few times and I can verify that this does not work for me. It resets to “Best” even if I just switch threads within HE.

It’s not a big deal but it is a little annoying to have to always select “Oldest” to get the threads in the correct order.

Huh, that is odd. It never does that with my blog, or others.

Maybe something to bring up with Disqus, Wells?

This is a user defined setting, via cookie. Make sure that your browser isn’t blocking third party or first party cookies.

You can have your favorite sort set that way, but by default it is “best”. Also, sort options is a user defined setting, via a cookie.

Does this mean “First!” will now be replaced with “Best!” ?

Best? I hope these aren’t chosen by a committee of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Comments.

Hey, you’re right. Okay, I take it back — use “oldest” and then the most recent comment is at the bottom.

Jeff, this has gotta be something you can configure somehow on your end. Plenty of Disqus blogs display comments chronologically by default.
